Is Tom Davis "playing games to protect the party...and himself?"

See here for an interesting article on Tom Davis and his close connection to Karl Rove.  The article wonders "why Davis has always worked so hard to discredit the [House Oversight and Government Reform] Committee's investigation of Lurita Doan."  It suggests that "Davis has a personal incentive to make sure this investigation doesn't get too far."  And it asks, "how Davis may be playing this game to protect the party ... and himself."

Interesting questions, anyone have any answers?

I'm looking forward to her response, she will tear Davis a new one.

The Mortal Sin of Conservatism (The Grey Havens - 8/20/2007 3:51:47 PM)
When history looks back on the dark age of Bush Republicans and conservative hegemony it will be recognized as an unprecedented age of ignorance, hatred and greed in American politics.  The debate will rage to whether the mortal sin of conservatism was the effort to make the federal government a wing of the Republican party.  When all the facts are known, there will be little doubt that Tom Davis was the epicenter of that effort.

Someone Should Get Davis on Videotape This Thursday (jsrutstein - 8/20/2007 6:02:20 PM)
Davis has agreed to face the public this Thursday.  It's supposed to be about the war, but would he dare duck any questions?  There are almost too many options to pick, but it might be funny just to get him to say "accoutrements" out loud and on videotape.  Maybe he'd adopt a French accent that could be used to humorous effect if he runs statewide.

More seriously, I've already e-mailed the organizers of the event to have them ask Davis what he thinks if we pledge to vote against his wife this November if Davis continues to vote the wrong way until then.

Joel...a public pledge to vote against his wife because of his votes and voting record is just plain dumb. There is no way that is going to help Chap.  In fact, Tom just sent out a letter noting Chap's rather silly comment early on about "too much power in one family"  They are two separate office holders. Your thought makes as much sense as holding
Brian responsible for his brother's voting record and David for his mother's voting record.

Mary, meet me halfway, k? (jsrutstein - 8/20/2007 7:02:26 PM)
I agree that pressure, especially from me, the guy who hosts a blog entitled votechapdumpjeannemarie.blogspot.com, probably won't mean much to Davis, but it seems to be a fact that some voters, especially the more cynical so-called independents, really don't like the way the Davises erected a shady symbiotic arrangement with her part-time lobbying gig benefiting themselves and the business interests that lobby his committee and contribute to the GOP.  Moreover, unfounded rumor or no, it sure looks like Jeannemarie would have her eye on Tom's House seat if he vacates it to run for a Warner-vacated Senate seat.  I don't know enough about the Morans to say whether they can be viewed monolithically.  Being a constituent of Sharon, I am interested in David and was disheartened to hear about his seeming to join the immigrant bashers.  I think even you would agree, however, that the relationship between husband and wife is more apt to be in lockstep than the relationship between brothers or between a mother and son.  I would be happy to engage in speculation about the more tenuous relationship between spouses who seemed to have begun their relationship when married to others.

Sorry Joel...Can't meet you halfway as there is nothing you have said that I can find worth the effort. Again, a pledge of the nature you mentioned will not help Chap. It if anything will help Jeanmarie....ever heard of being double
teamed? My bar bet is there are those who will see the separation of office...the separation of issues. For the record, I know all too well the team effort of Tom and Jeanmarie with respect to their "business activities"
I put my time, effort, money and heart in Andy's campaign. I have known Tom since 1980 and for 20 years supported him
As for the reference to the marriage...that is none of my business nor yours. Apparently, it didn't bother the voters either as they voted for Tom and not Andy. BTW, I spent some time in Chap's office today so please, no she is a JMDD supporter comments

Mary, I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on whether there are votes to be had for Chap in tying Jeannemarie to Tom.  I'm thrilled to hear that you stopped being a Tom supporter, even if it took you 20 years.  Of course, I'm even more thrilled to hear that you're a Chap worker.  I'll probably be more active that way myself as we enter the homestretch (handing out fliers in the spring was kinda depressing).  Meantime, I'll continue my blogging, commenting, and hewing to my first priority when faced with a non-progressive Dem, namely attacking the GOP troglodytes masquerading as moderates.
