HCDC Meeting: August 13

We had our August meeting last night for the Henrico County Democratic Committee, and we're really now starting to put it in high gear for the November elections.  We've got four candidates running in contested elections, Tom Herbert for the 72nd District Delegate, Phillip White for Henrico Sheriff, Will Shaw (get a website, buddy) for 56th District Delegate, and Walter Johnson for Varina District Supervisor.  The rest like Joe Morrissey, Donald McEachin, and Frank Thornton are running unopposed or as close to unopposed as one can get.
First of all the HCDC website is newly revamped and much more attractive and user-friendly.  We also instituted a continuation/expansion of a previous program of going after those voters who are receiving absentee ballots, targeting them for the special attention of information on our candidates.  I think this is a superb idea; in fact I think the future of elections should be mail and that limiting it to one day is inherently unfair and that we should be expanding the chances to vote, not limiting them.  But, hey, I'm a Democrat, that's what we do.  Limiting voters is the Republican's bag.  I'll be serving on this committee which will get cracking in early September.

Will Shaw, 56th District candidate, running against the HORRIBLE Bill Janis (even his name is slimy, two-faced even), gave a brief talk to the committee.  I haven't met Shaw, but he seems like a great regular guy. Hopefully he'll overcome his severe fundraising disadvantage that he has as he's not an incumbent and came in late to the race.

I'll finish this with some 72nd District news.  If you're in the area, get in touch with me or the Herbert campaign.  We've got a lot of stuff coming up, and we're going to need as many hands on deck soon as we can possibly get.
