Virginia Republicans Attack General Wes Clark

I received the following today from the Republican Party of Virginia (RPV).  Apparently, it's not bad enough to attack Tim Kaine using lies, damn lies, and outright damn lies.  Now, they're going after 4-star General Wesley Clark - in Virginia today to support Tim Kaine -- calling him "dishonest," "out of touch,"  and someone who just goes "which way the wind's blowing."  Why does the RPV feel the need to do this?  A few possibilities spring to mind:  1) they're evil; 2) they're ruthless and evil; and 3) they're scared, ruthless and evil.

Take your pick, but don't be under any illusions what we're up against here - the same Swift Boat scumbag sordidness we saw in 2004.  The same "Vast Right Wing Conspiracy" warfare waged on William Jefferson Clinton throughout the 1990s. The same garbage they threw at Al Gore, Max Cleland, Tom Daschle, and many more.  In other words, what we're seeing the Republicans do in Virginia is the same thing we see them do everywhere.  They. Must. Be. Stopped.

Tim Kaine To Campaign Today With Wesley Clark, Former Democrat Presidential Candidate, Who Received NINE PERCENT Of The Virginia Primary Vote In 2004

Desperate Times Call For Desperate Measures

Tim Kaine & Wes Clark: Out Of Touch With Virginians On The Death Penalty ...

Clark Opposed Death Penalty For Osama Bin Laden. CHRIS MATTHEWS: "[D]o you think Osama bin Laden should be tried here at the U.S. or in the Hague ?" CLARK: "I would like to see him tried in the Hague " MATTHEWS: "Well, 3,000 Americans were killed here. Do you believe he should be held exempt from capital punishment, because if you send him to Hague he will be. They don't have capital punishment at the Hague." CLARK: "I think that's a separate issue. " MATTHEWS: "No, it's a key issue, because the sentencing limitation, they do not execute people at the Hague." CLARK: "I think that you can adequately punish Osama bin Laden, and you've got to look beyond simple retribution against an individual. " (MSNBC'S 'Hardball,' 12/8/03)

Tim Kaine Can't Be Trusted On The Death Penalty. "The most memorable ex-change of the evening came on one of the most timeworn subjects of the campaign, the death penalty. Sabato challenged Kaine on his opposition to the death penalty, even in the face of the apparent murder of Virginia Commonwealth University student Taylor Behl. Missing since Labor Day, Behl's body was found in rural Virginia last week." (Garren Shipley, "Kaine, Kilgore square off in debate on TV," Northern Virginia Daily, 10/10/05)

Tim Kaine & Wes Clark: Dishonest With Virginians About Their Core Beliefs...

Former Colleague Says Clark Just Goes "Which Way The Wind's Blowing." "I find him to be a guy who's very clever at determining which way the wind's blowing,' said Gen. Paul Funk, who was General Clark's boss in the early 1990's. Who knows, maybe in the political world that's a good thing.'" (Katharine Q. Seelye and Eric Schmitt, "Clark's Military Record Offers Campaign Clues," The New York Times, 9/21/03)

Virginians Don't Know Where Kaine Stands."Will the real Tim Kaine please stand up? The gubernatorial candidate seems to want to appease both camps on social issues as well. When running for lieutenant governor, his campaign literature heralded him as pro-choice. Now Kaine says he is anti abortion -- but would not interfere with abortion rights. During the 2001 campaign Kaine supported 'civil benefits' for gay couples; now he says he doesn't favor civil unions or gay marriageIs he a tax-cutting, antiabortion, gun-rights conservative or is that campaign posturing? Maybe Kaine finally is speaking his mind, but after Warner, Virginians must be wary of Democrats who go in for extreme makeovers."
