Commander Carlos Del Toro (ret.) is the latest Democrat to take a firm stance against the abuser fees. In a written statement Del Toro says:
"These outrageous fees on Virginia drivers are bad policy and should be removed immediately. We need to fund real transportation improvements, but we can't do it with these speeding tickets on steroids."

The full press release, and info on the new Del Toro/SCDC campaign HQ, can be found below.
And in related news, the Stafford Co. Democrats are teaming with Del Toro for Delegate to open a brand spankin' new campaign HQ for local Dems at 30 Town & Country Dr. Suite 101 in Fredericksburg. The grand opening is this Mon. Aug. 6 at 7pm. There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by Carlos and several other Democratic candidates for office.

Del Toro calls for end of Abusive Driver Fees

Commander Carlos Del Toro (ret.) is calling on Democrats and Republicans in the state government to hold a special session and repeal the unfair abusive driver fees.

"These outrageous fees on Virginia drivers are bad policy and should be removed immediately. We need to fund real transportation improvements, but we can't do it with these speeding tickets on steroids," Del Toro said.

"We need leaders in Richmond who will fix our traffic mess through fair funding sources that don't threaten our families' financial security," Del Toro said. "I've helped balance the federal budget by cutting out waste, inefficiencies and ineffective programs, and it's pretty clear Richmond is in need of that kind of leadership."

"Frankly, I think Gov. Kaine and Speaker Howell should follow Ward Armstrong's leadership here, and listen to the people of Virginia and repeal these fees," Del Toro said. "If I had been the Delegate, I would have pushed for a bill that funded transportation improvements without these abusive driver fees."

"In light of this judge's ruling, we now know that these excessive fines are not only bad for Virginia families, they're likely unconstitutional as well," Del Toro said.

Stafford HQ Ribbon-Cutting - THIS MONDAY at 7:15PM (stafford dems - 8/3/2007 9:10:31 AM)
I just wanted to pick up on Chris' comments.

Thanks to Commander Del Toro, the Stafford Democratic Committee has opened its campaign headquarters very early this year.  It is an excellent facility that can accommodate a lot of volunteers!

In Stafford County, we have several local races that need volunteers and we hope to meet you Monday night, to get you involved!

The HQ is at 30 Town & Country Drive - Suite 101 - just off of White Oak Road and across from the White Oak GIANT FOOD store.  For information about the Grand Opening festivities, please call the HQ at 540-310-4888.

Thanks, and we hope to see you all there!
