Should the Senate Censure Bush and Cheney?

The latest National Journal "Insider's Poll" answer the question, "Would it help or hurt your party if the Senate voted on Russell Feingold's proposal to censure Bush and Cheney for "misconduct relating to the war in Iraq" and 'assaults on the rule of law'?"  The answer?

*70% of Democrats say it would "hurt my party"
*83% of Republicans say it would "help my party"

In other words, almost everyone thinks it will hurt the Democrats and help the Republicans.  Ugh.

Sample comments by Democrats include:

*"Swing voters in this country will think we've taken leave of our senses."

*"We need to stop the symbolic stuff: The Senate looks foolish and incapable of acting."

*"Pass some meaningful legislation first to show people you are delivering on their needs before you are seen as playing politics."

I tend to agree.  Either impeach 'em or don't waste the Senate's time.  Censuring accomplishes nothing, and could very well interfere with Democrats electoral prospects in 2008.  I'm with the "insiders" on this one: don't do it.

Then Impeach The Felons - Don't Sit on This (Matt H - 8/3/2007 10:14:23 AM)
A censure vote is foolish, and impeachment is the only answer.  Still this about the health of our country and not about what's best for either party.  Do the slobs in Congress want history to show that they did absolutely nothing to stop the daily bloodshed in Iraq?

It's clear that Bush/Cheney are culpable for misleading us into a war that is going to take a lot more of our lives and money to get out of.  They are shameless, and unless our representatives are more concerned with politics then with their moral duty, they are equally shameless.
