On March 21, 2007, the VACAP website (subtitled "Moving Virginia in the Right Direction") lamented the retirement of Delegate Jack Reid (who shot off a gun in his office at the Capitol) thusly:

"Today was a sad day for Henrico County as Delegate Jack Reid announced his intentions to retire. Jack Reid has been a tremendous champion for the conservative movement."............

"He has consistently and faithfully been a reliable vote on tax cuts, fiscal restraint, pro-business, second amendment, and pro-family issues"..........

Sounds great, huh?  Especially those "pro family issues" which has been a code word for lots of things.

The March VCAP article continues:
"It looks like Jimmy(sic) Massie will be stepping forward to run in this seat. Jimmy Massie has been a long-time supporter of the conservative movement and Republicans. He has been a great friend and supporter to VCAP as well. We look forward to working with Massie in his election bid. He would no doubt bring to the seat a great energy and a commitment to conservative ideals."

hmmmmmmmm....

Jimmie Massie is closely allied with The Family Foundation, which among other things wants to bring back "fault" to divorce proceedings, so that mutual written consent is required for divorce if there are children in the family, absent proof of just cause for obtaining the divorce.  This would especially impact poorer women, who could be held hostage in an abusive (emotional or physical) relationship if they could not afford to hire someone to "lawyer them out of" their marriage....

hmmmmm.

No democrat has run in the 72nd District for 16 years, but this year the Virginia Democrat Party isn't conceding anything, even in this traditionally red district which includes the James River Course of the Country Club of Virginia.  A bright and energetic candidate, Tom Herbert, with a background in the high tech industry and a small business owner, has embarked to retake this seat for all progressives AND MODERATES in the District.  Please show him some support by visiting his website at:

Throw him a buck or two if you'd like!!

How does Massie feel about (Eric - 7/31/2007 4:00:59 PM)
taxes and the Civil Remedial Fees?  If you look at my post on the Petition and House districts you'll note a high level of agitation about the CRF's in the 72nd.  This could be very helpful to anyone running against a hardcore, no taxes, flat earther.

Civil Remedial Fees (aprilac - 7/31/2007 10:00:45 PM)
If he's smart he'll run like heck from the abuser fees imposed by his Republican friends...So I doubt he'll bring it up himself.  But it would be interesting if someone were to follow him around and ask what he thinks of what his buddies have done.  Perhaps he'll blame it on Kaine!!!

Blame it on Cain (Kaine) (bherring - 7/31/2007 10:14:27 PM)
If you've heard Elvis Costello's song "Blame It On Cain" from his first album, you'll know what hysterically popped into my head when I read that comment.
