NPR covers the H-1b visa

This is an interesting take on the H-1b visa (Real Player required): http://www.publicrad...

What is even more interesting is the source.  Some unscrupulous immigration attorneys (Greg Siskind for example) are attempting to label people opposing the H-1b visa as "anti-immigrant".  Nothing could be further from the truth given that the top H-1b visa sponsors are actually preventing permanent immigration, and in many cases exploiting their workers.

Only a bad lawyer or IT lobbyist could argue that the people supporting permanent immigration over employer sponsored visas are the anti-immigrants.  You've got to scrape the bottom of the barrel to find these people.

Listen and form your own opinion.  Note that Ron Hira, the person opposing the H-1b visa in this report, is an Indian American.  Greg Siskind (the worst lawyer I know) would tell you that he hates himself.  Ron Hira couldn't possibly oppose the H-1b because it is bad for workers - there must be some character flaw.  Well, that's what Greg Siskind would say (and has said).

Outsourcing Visa (loboforestal - 7/31/2007 9:07:28 AM)
One of the critics is right in that the biggest users of the visas are Indian outsourcing firms.  There are plenty of channels for legal immigration but corporate American only wants a subsidy that gives them indentured workers.  Very scary.  The H-1B program and other guest worker programs are broken and need to be curtailed.  With black teenage unemployment at 37%, it's time to look at these "summer jobs" visas given to East Europeans.
