No Solace for Bush Republicans: America Prefers Congressional Democrats

Maybe the Washignton post was just trying to give some aid and comfort to our embattled and increasingly isolated President, aka, Mr. 25%.  Maybe they just don't know how to read a poll, but Media Matters today blows the lid off of a shockingly misleading WaPo piece which wrongly implied that Americans are more disaffected with Congressional Democrats than Bush Republicans.

Washington Post's Claim:

Bush advisers clutch at Truman as if he were a political life preserver. If Bush has experienced a similar collapse in public support while in office, they hope he will enjoy the same post-presidential reassessment that has made Truman look far better today than in his time. A 2004 poll by Greenberg Quinlan Rosner found that 58 percent of Americans viewed Truman favorably.

And the president's team takes solace in the fact that the public holds Congress in low esteem, too. More than half disapproved of Congress generally, and Democrats in particular, in the latest Post-ABC survey, though their ratings were still better than Bush's.

Note that "Democrats in particular"...  Completely WRONG!!!!  Too bad reality has that noted liberal bias, Media Matters Rebuts:

The Post/ABC poll found approval of Congress at 37 percent, with 60 percent disapproving, but it also found that congressional Republicans had a significantly higher disapproval rating than Democrats. Sixty-four percent of respondents disapproved "of the way the Republicans in Congress are doing their job," compared with 51 percent who disapproved of the Democrats' performance; 34 percent approved of congressional Republicans, while 46 percent approved of congressional Democrats.

Below the fold... George W. Bush is no Harry Truman, he's the anti-Truman.
Truman, a real war hero, faced an impossible threat amid growing nuclear proliferation with intelligence, courage, and authentic strength, while Bush's necon, authoritarianism will be correctly viewed by history as an unprecedented exercise of ignorance and hubris, an angry cowardly shadow of History's greatest Haberdasher.

Bush Republicans need to understand that their life preserver, Harry Truman, in their hands is an anvil.

In fact, a random scan of their biographies shows that it's not just that Bush isn't much like Truman, and it's not just that he doesn't measure up.  Bush is practically the anti-Truman.
