Jerry Kilgore: You're No Lloyd Bentsen!

During the 1988 presidential election, George HW Bush's running mate, Dan Quayle, actually had the audacity to claim, "I have as much experience in the Congress as Jack Kennedy did when he sought the presidency."  This led to one of the most famous, devastating body slams in debating history, by Senator Lloyd Bentsen of Texas:

Senator, I served with Jack Kennedy.  I knew Jack Kennedy. Jack Kennedy was a friend of mine. Senator, you're no Jack Kennedy!

Well, last night at the Kaine-Kilgore debate, Jerry Kilgore tried to resurrect the gist of that line against Tim Kaine.  The problem is, Kilgore was the wrong person to utter this line,  and he uttered it in a totally different context that, frankly, made absolutely no sense whatsoever.  Most obviously, Jerry Kilgore certainly didn't know Jack Kennedy.  Also, I would add that Jerry Kilgore didn't know Lloyd Bentsen and was certainly not friends with the distinguished, courtly, well-respected Senator from Texas.  Which leads to my line of the day:

"Jerry Kilgore, you're No Lloyd Bentsen!"

Just thought I'd get that off my chest.  Now, back to regular programming.
