Front Royal has now taken a stand against Del. Dave Albo!  It now appears that common sense Virginians are finally learning what it is like to be victimized by Del. Dave Albo's self-dealing.

Abuser Fees Face the Ax in Front Royal
Peggy Fox, 9 News Now (WUSA) -- The angry over Virginia's "abuser fees" have reached a boiling point in  Front Royal, Virginia and they're not going to take it anymore.

The town  council will vote on a proposal to block the enforcement of the fees withtown  limits.

Councilman Tom Sayre who is leading the charge says the fees are  too steep and will severely hurt lower income people who are charged with  traffic violations.

Springfield Delegate Dave Albo (R) crafted the  "abuser fee" plan as part of $1 billion a year transportation package. The fees  do not apply to common traffic infractions such as failing to use a signal, but  they do target drunk drivers and reckless driving which can be 20 miles per hour  over the speed limit.

Albo says the bloggers are fueling  misunderstanding.

He says getting rid of the "abuser fees" would cause  the whole package to unravel. He says if the plan unravels, Northern Virginians  may not see Rolling Road widened or the Fairfax County Parkway finished.

To raise the $60 million the abuser fees would bring would take a 2 cent  increase in the gas tax, but Albo and others say that never would've passed the  legislature.

SAY NO MO ALBO!

that a gas tax increase would never pass the legislature.  In other words, he wouldn't vote for it but he will vote for outrageous fees that, BTW, line his own pockets.  Hmmmm....

Well it won't be a problem if we give him a new legislature to work with in January.

crash interstate 81 .. it has happened (pvogel - 7/20/2007 8:15:27 PM)
an out of state driver crashed into a law abiding virginin this afternoon, 5 dead.

This is the first "albo Law Deaths", but sadly, not the last.

wilson alexandria city council sewaring in (pvogel - 7/20/2007 8:18:22 PM)
I talked to a few folks, like  3 councilmen, one gen assemblyman, and the mayor, told them about the out of state  difference, and Rob Krupicka said that on a drive wednesday to richmond, he noticed the  new yorkers, and maryladers, not eligible to recieve the 3000  assessmenst, were merrily driving at warp 10 speeds.

Kaine,  get rid of this law. Lead virginians to safety.
Or else, be lumped with the worst govs. in vas long history

Now wait a minute (Shenandoah Democrat - 7/20/2007 8:26:10 PM)
Wasn't it Clay Athey the Republican House delegate from Front Royal, who blamed the "abuser fee" on "drafting errors", implying of course that he didn't read the legislation he voted on, (BTW, few legislators ever do). I'm just wondering--how much work does Athey's law firm do in this area? Or more bluntly, does he have a direct conflict of interest he should tell us about as a repsonsible government official. Right?

Yep. (Kenton - 7/20/2007 11:12:01 PM)
That was him--and here's footage (shameless plug) of him sitting through a thorough explanation of the bill, asking questions, and then pleading ignorance.

Athey (bault - 7/23/2007 7:41:38 PM)
Athey apparently changed his views because he did write to Kaine requesting a special session to repeal the abuser fees.

of course- it would be better to never have implemented them in the first place, but I guess hindsight is 20/20.  I mean, who would've thought that Virginia citizens would be angered by $1250 speeding tickets that don't apply to non-citizens?

If not Albo, who? (TheGreenMiles - 7/20/2007 9:08:43 PM)
As always I ask, if Albo must go, who must replace Albo?  No one is running against him.  Why will no one step up and take on this doofus?

At the very least (Draft Me Please - 7/20/2007 10:09:33 PM)
we need to get out and make sure people know they can go out and write in an alternative, while they're voting for George Barker and the Democratic ticket in the 42nd.

DMV to Front Royal - We Run Things! (Bubby - 7/21/2007 8:56:46 AM)
Doesn't matter what the good Councilmen of FR say or do. If you get a traffic ticket DMV assigns it a point value - 8 points and you are on the Albo Installment Payment Plan. That's two speeding tickets and a bad tail lamp in three years.

Get a ticket in West Virginia?  Virginia DMV doesn't care if it was a speed trap, they'll assign you points. If you drive for a living and you drive through the many towns that derive revenue from speedtraps you WILL find your way to 8 driving points and the Virginia Civil Remedial Fees (Abuser Fees).
