An 11-Year-Old Blogger? Boy, I'm Feeling Old!

While I think this is great, a new blog by the 11-year-old son of Del. Chris Saxman (R-20th), it also makes me feel really REALLY old!  Having said that, I love the focus of this new blog:

Today I started a blog because I was sick and tired of seeing al the negative news on TV, the newspaper and the internet.

I think all the negative and bad news really makes people unhappy.

Yeah, you can say THAT again, William!  You can sure say that again... :)

The only problem... (KathyinBlacksburg - 7/18/2007 5:36:28 PM)
I applaud the effort and intentions of this young man, but I hope he learns at some point that the job of journalists, including citizen journalists and bloggers, is to air the facts and opinion.  Certainly, blogs are a better location for feel-good news than the three networks, which have been feeding us a good news version of Bushworld for some years now.  But blogs unfortunately have to include data and commentary, which the so-called MSM frequently refuses to confront.

Covering up stories which "make us sad" is not the best antidote to what ails us.  Telling the truth and working to improve things is such an antidote.  I still applaud this blogger's efforts, though and hope he keeps blogging.

When I hear Katie Couric (in the two times I watched her or the couple of times I have read her) that her viewers want good news (only), I get a little sick.  That's because it makes me sad that the media fail to do their job.

It's all "if it bleeds it leads" (Lowell - 7/18/2007 5:54:34 PM)
in the MSM.  Also, lots of senationalism, fires, mayhem, Paris Hilton idiocy, the "missing attractive white girl" thing, etc.  The MSM news, particularly on TV, is overwhelmingly like that, and it's wildly irresponsible of them.

But I'd cut an 11 year old a little slack.  I'm glad he wants to write.  But let him focus on the positive stuff now.  We all grow up way too soon.  Give him his childhood and encourage his creativity.
