The Southwest Virginia Young Democrats (SWVAYDs) were selected as the 2007 Up And Coming Club of the Year by the Virginia Young Democrats at the March State Young Democrat Convention. The award is a reflection of the dedication that members of the SWVAYDs have exhibited in the past year as they chartered and began an official membership of Young Democrats in the Ninth Congressional District of Virginia.

Isaac Sarver, Rural Caucus Chair of the Virginia Young Democrats presented the award to SWVAYD Chair, Tabitha Hibbitts Peace, at their July meeting in Abingdon, Virginia.

Peace thanked Chairman Sarver, as well as the Virginia Young Democrats, for the honor. "This award shows that our efforts to establish a network of Young Democrats in Southwest Virginia has not gone unnoticed, and we hope that we can quickly grow to be an even greater asset for the state Democratic Party."

Officers for the coming year were also elected at the July meeting. Tabitha Hibbitts Peace, of Wise County, remains Chair. Brian Patton, of Dickenson County, remains Vice Chair. Neil Osborne of Washington County was elected Secretary. Phillip Puckett of Russell County remains as Treasurer.
