VA-SEN: Warner Fundraising Still Anemic

Ok, I'm going to call it right now. John Warner is not running for re-election. Not with fundraising numbers like these, according to the Hotline.
2ndQ FEC reports have been filed today for 3 GOP senators widely rumored to be considering retirement in 2008: John Warner, Chuck Hagel, and Larry Craig.

Warner had nowhere to go but up, considering he only raised $500 in the 1stQ, and indeed, his campaign brought in $71K in the 2ndQ ($60K of it from PACs), raising his CoH to $734K. Still, that's nowhere near the amount that an active re-election campaign would have raised at this point, so don't expect those retirement rumors to settle down anytime soon.

PAC money is what you get for just being in office. John Warner is leaving the Senate, folks, it's time to press harder Mark Warner to join Jim Webb in the Senate.

Gilmore is out! He's pulled the plug on his bid for president. I saw this flash across the AP wire but haven't seen any articles online yet.

He was at least excepting money this time - last quarter he basically had to reject PAC money.  I'll be honest, it wont be hard for him to raise the money  and he has repeatedly said that once he makes his decision in September, things will either "end" or "move forward."  I am personally wiling to cut him some slack until he makes his decision.

I posted a simliar thread on Kos (jiacinto - 7/15/2007 5:51:16 PM)

Tom Davis apparently has already reserved web space for a 2008 run. Now the key is getting Mark Warner into the race.
