Another reason why I just CAN'T be a Hillary fan. (Catzmaw - 7/9/2007 10:51:47 PM)

This is sickening. (Gordie - 7/10/2007 10:20:36 AM)
all the candidates support immigration and when you support immigration you support H1-B visa's.

Just what is wrong with you people. Are you going to allow the right wing media to destroy another candidate like they did with Dean and Kerry in 2004?

Are you all so blind that all this bull from the right (who are scared of Hillary) and believe everything you read and then promote it as absolute truth. Completely disregarding what Americans stand for. Fairness.

Just listen to who is really promoting this issue. The Republican Congress and what do they have to say? " There are millions of H1-B visa's that no one knows where they are after the visa ran out."

Just ask this question. "Who has been in power these last 7 years and allowed this to happen. REPUBLICANS". So now they want to lay the blame on Hillary and you all are going to let them.

NO ONE HAS TO BE  A HILLARY FAN TO BE A GOOD DEMOCRAT, BUT THEY NEED TO HAVE EQUAL JUSTICE AND HELP ALL DEMOCRATS.

AND MAY THE BEST PERSON WIN THE NOMINATION.

What a silly response (relawson - 7/10/2007 7:07:33 PM)
"all the candidates support immigration and when you support immigration you support H1-B visa's."

Wow, that statement lacks any intellectual value.  And it is patently false.

If a candidate supported the H-1b visa, they would be harming immigrants.  The H-1b visa has ties to an employer - anyone who truly wants to be an immigrant and pursue a green card (as opposed to just working for a few years) is sent to the back of the line every time they change jobs.  Now tell me again how supporting this visa is pro-immigrant!!!

Your idiotic statement doesn't stop there, unfortunately: "Just listen to who is really promoting this issue. The Republican Congress and what do they have to say? ..."

You obviously haven't been following this issue.  Most Republicans support an increase in the H-1b visa.  This would be a huge favor for big business - because they enjoy having an army of indentured servants who are paid much less than American employees.

Finally, that post didn't come from a Republican.  It came from me.  The articles came from Industry publications.  Most IT workers - especially in California - are liberal.  And most oppose the H-1b visa.  This is not a Republican issue - it is a labor and fair treatment issue.  Most of the leading voices on this issue are in fact LIBERAL!

Both Obama and Edwards are viable candidates.  You might as well be voting for a pro-industry Republican if you vote for Clinton.  Just follow the money.  She is after all leading all candidates - including Republicans - in lobbyist donations.  Obama and Edwards have been financed largely from individual donors and small contributions.

I suspect your motives for making the suggestion that supporting the H-1b is supporting immigrants.  Either you are terribly misinformed, or you side with corporations on this.  Which is it?

H-1B Visa (Gordie - 7/11/2007 10:47:44 AM)
"The H-1B visa program allows American companies and universities to employ foreign scientists, engineers, programmers, and other professionals in the United States."

Yes, that is the program, but what is it really about. It is immigration and illegal immigration after they are here. Just listen to the Republicans who are against immigration. Like the one running for President and his group of 39 or so Reprsentatives who are speaking out against any immigration. They claim there are over 500,000 illegals because of this program. NOW do not take that statement out of context. I am not a Republican, never have and never will be. I hate their hollier then thou agenda.

The statement of "who is really supporting this issue is Republicans". Yes I cut that statement short. It should have said a little more like, "Look who is really supporting this issue to trash Hilliary about the H-1B visa programs.. Republicans".

By the way I am a past Union Steward in the United Steelworkers and even though I retired from management my heart and soul is for all workers and fair wages. I went back and forth from union to management but decided I could do the best good for my union workers if I was in management. Do you find that strange, also?

Lastly. I can and will vote for anyone of the top 6 Democratic Candidates and before I would vote for Gravel I would stay home. He was radical on the floor of the senate during Vietnam and is still radicule. BUT, one thing I will not do is trash 1 candidate over another who is just as well qualified as the others. Each has their own method of Governoring and ideals and we can disagree without trashing. Yes I trashed Gravel, BUT.

Well I must say that I believe Corporations need to make a profit and continue to hire as many employees as possible. They need tax laws that favor them to stay in this country. Am I on the side of Corporations? I guess one could say yes, but don't run with that statement, there are limits.

Since the word "Liberal" was used quite often, I was wondering if this is your defintion. I know it is mine.

If you look at any decent dictionary...

...you'll find that "liberal" is generally defined as the American Heritage dictionary defines it:

1) Not limited to or by established, traditional, orthodox, or authoritarian attitudes, views, or dogmas; free from bigotry.

2) Favoring proposals for reform, open to new ideas for progress, and tolerant of the ideas and behavior of others; broad-minded

OK... (relawson - 7/11/2007 10:56:32 AM)
I don't want to get into a "who's the most liberal" contest or who cares the most about workers.  I won't go there and question your intentions - your response seems sincere and I was quite heated in my original response to you.

My point is that the H-1b visa is bad for workers, and equally bad for immigrants.  That fact should not be lost in this debate.

I don't know that there are 500,000 illegals because of the H-1b - which the Republicans state.  We don't track people when they leave so it is literally impossible to say such a thing.  There are genuine problems with the H-1b visa so I stick with what can be proven.

Personally, I believe that Indians (who use the visa the most) are less likely to overstay their visa.  I have respect for their abilities and don't hold any personal animosity.  Also, I don't think it is productive to discuss this visa in context to illegal immigration because it isn't really a significant factor.

As far as Hillary Clinton is concerned, her politics are anti worker when it comes to this.  There is no justification for her stance here.  She is making Gravel look quite attractive as a candidate ;-)

The (Gordie - 7/11/2007 1:05:05 PM)
Hillary vs Gravel comment brought chuckles.

As far as the 500,000 you are correct. I would suppose that is why Lou Dobbs continues to say 12 to 20 million illegals. We have no way of really knowing or at least the government really does not care to report the facts.

Personnally I hate H-1B visa's. I am for some way for all Americans to get higher education, even if it is another Gov. program. If we educated our children properly we would not need H-1B visa's. Also if other Gov. and Countries took care of their citizens none of them would crave for our  H-1B visa.
