Gate City: The apple doesn't fall far from the tree?

This is a photo of Willie Mae Kilgore, mother of Jerry Kilgore, and voter registrar of Scott County.  She is also involved in an election "controversy" (some might say "scandal") stemming from the May 2004 Mayor's race in Gate City, Jerry Kilgore's home town.  In that election, Charles Dougherty "won" by just 2 votes (357-355) over Mark Jenkins.  In June 2004, the election results were thrown out by a three-judge panel and Jenkins became interim Mayor, pending a special election in May 2005.

However, the "controversy" didn't end there; according to the Roanoke Times, "a Roanoke-area prosecutor [was]...appointed to pursue possible criminal charges stemming from the election."  Also, according to the Roanoke Times, Jenkins claims that the office of registrar Willie Mae Kilgore, was largely responsible.  Jenkins is quoted as saying, "If the registrar's office had been run as a professional office that followed the guidelines, this never would have happened."  Meanwhile,  "A second lawsuit claims that Kilgore is an 'active political partisan' who uses her office to benefit Republican candidates."

What does this have to do with Jerry Kilgore?  Maybe nothing, maybe something, we don't know yet.  It's certainly possible that there's a connection to the fact that Jerry's mother (Scott County registrar) , father (long-time chairman of the Scott County Republican Party), and extended family essentially run a small-time political machine in that part of Virginia.  It's also possible that the many indications of cronyism, corruption, and arrogance displayed by the Kilgore family over the years have nothing - nothing whatsoever - to do with Jerry or his brother Terry.

Well, maybe we're a bit cynical, but let's just say we tend to believe there's something to the sayings "where there's smoke there's fire" and "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree."  For now, though, we simply hope to find out more from our own investigations and also through tips from helpful readers.

Apology accepted. Ho (Tabitha - 4/4/2006 11:26:05 PM)
Apology accepted. However, no one has called anybody the G word on here, except you and some other no namer that wanted to chastise us because they had nothing better to say in defense of Kilgore.

Have you ever heard the term metrosexual? Those people don't appreciate being called gay, but they don't disagree that they are not stereotypical males. So, why can't a person discuss that Republicans have jumped on the catch phrase "girly man" and that it all seems a bit rediculous?

This thread was not intended to make fun of Willie Mae. It began as a look into the suspiciaous events transpiring in Gate City. The fact that someone decided to have fun with it doesn't discredit that there are BIG problems with that election in Gate City. When you have a registrar helping people mark their absentee ballots in unappropriate manners, one can only wonder what all else goes on.

You want to talk about attacking people in the most heinous way. Apparently you haven't seen any of the slanderous propganda this family has been a part of producing. Yeah, they like to hide it behind the PACs and say they aren't responsible, but everybody knows where that stuff comes from. Therefore, our light mockery is nothing compared to the heinous attacks we know the Kilgores will be participating in this year as many other times.

Hey, I'm actually go (Not Addison - 4/4/2006 11:26:05 PM)
Hey, I'm actually going to apologize.  I still think you guys are very wrong to be calling people gay and criticizing how his mother looks.  But iw was also wrong for me to use the same tactic in response.  Two wrongs don't make a right.

I don't know Lowell or Tabitha, I only know what I've been told about them, and it wasn't right for me to attack like that.

It's a little disingenuous to accuse me of "ad hominem" since that's what this entire blog is. And I'm sure Tim Kaine wouldn't approve, as mentioned up there.

Anyway, try to remember you're attacking real people in the most heinous way on this blog.  I'll try to remember the same thing.

And I don't know who "Addison" is, sorry for the confusion.  That's also my nickname.

Posts 12 and 14 were not made by the same person who runs Sic Semper Tyrannis.  To address any potential confusion, I have instituted a new policy.

Any comment made by the person who runs SST will immediately be posted there.  Since I am the only person with access to post there, it should alleviate the confusion.

"Lowell, in real life you are the contributing editor for a Marxist magazine in DC." - Addison

Hmm...I guess you can google someone and learn a lot about them, eh?  Well, I have been looking for info on "Addison" and I all I keep finding is this:

"Someone too chicken to attach his or her name to their beliefs.  Generally because they are not really sincere."

Note: I made that up, its not really on Google.

Addison, I want to (John - 4/4/2006 11:26:05 PM)
Addison,
I want to invite you down to Scott County and talk about the Kilgore principles.  Lets see, during elections they are the morality police even though this past session in Richmond, Kilgore wrote a bill for "Liquor-by-the Drink" for his district.  We need jobs for our children and what do the Kilgores do?  They are bringing us OFF TRACK BETTING palors!!! Just what our children need.  We are taking bets at the CO-OP on which Kilgore will get the job to run the gambling palor.  Even my Republican preacher is starting to see the "sheep's clothing".  Yeah, they do have principles, THEMSELVES & SAYING ANYTHING TO WIN ELECTIONS.  By the way check out their campaign donors, beer companies & drug companies that are under investigation for price gouging MediCare and Seniors.....I quess Jerry-Sue stepped down from the AG office for more reasons than not having to prosecute his mother.....

I said to Lowell yes (Tabitha - 4/4/2006 11:26:05 PM)
I said to Lowell yesterday that they were a Boss hog type family. Interesting others have that same perception.

Most of the Kilgore's are in some type of public service. That is how they create jobs . . . for themselves.

I knew they had a half brother, and that explains why the half brother looks like them to some degree. I don't think I have ever even heard him speak a word any time I ever met him.

And Jason, I'm suprised you don't remember that big economic project they had a few years ago. They widened that entrance to Kingsport so that people to get to their jobs, shopping, and doctors in Tennessee easier! :-P

it was their half br (JMS - 4/4/2006 11:26:05 PM)
it was their half brother who was adopted by jerry and terry's father. willie had him from a previous marriage I do believe. he is currently the economic development director for Scott County. A cush job considering the Kilgores goal seems to be to keep out any kind of economic development that does not help them or their friends much like Boss Hogg and Roscoe in the Dukes of Hazzard. The industrial park is almost empty and I can't think of a single thing he has actually done beside cash a nice paycheck for being a Kilgore.

I was told by someon (Tabitha - 4/4/2006 11:26:05 PM)
I was told by someone from Gate City the other day that Jerry and Terry were adopted supposedly. Of course, wonderful for them, but explains why they don't look like her.

However, ethics and character are learned behaviours, so that might explain why election fraud and wire tapping run in the family. They also practically stole the "family farm" Jerry likes to talk about growing up on. Glad they have family values . . .

the fact that jerry (JMS - 4/4/2006 11:26:05 PM)
the fact that jerry kilgore canceled the special elections effectively appointing mark as mayor is very suspicious. was jerry trying to avoid bad publicity during the height of primary season? I'm from Gate City and I would NOT put it past any of them. That country bumpkin act is wearing thin when they are every bit as devious as Karl Rove.

I use to have Congre (Chris - 4/4/2006 11:26:05 PM)
I use to have Congresswoman Mary Bono as the wallpaper on my computer.  So "good looks" almost made me want to be a Republican.  Shame on you jcarrice!  Good work Ben!

I don't see what's w (Ben - 4/4/2006 11:26:05 PM)
I don't see what's wrong with Lowell pointing out that his mother looks nothing like Keanu Reeves!

PS- I'm using Ms. Kilgore as my new computer wallpaper!

This is pathetic. I (jcarrice - 4/4/2006 11:26:05 PM)
This is pathetic.  If attacking a person's mother -- especially over the way she looks -- is the best you've got, you're in serious trouble.

I'm sure Tim Kaine would not endorse this nonsense.  Of course, Kaine has some modicum of class, and this blog entry is a disgrace to the candidate you claim to support.

It's no wonder the Democratic Party in Virginia is being consigned to the dustbin of history.  You waste time mocking the way a candidate talks or the way his mother looks.

You should be embarrassed.

Hey Lowell, she is k (Ben - 4/4/2006 11:26:05 PM)
Hey Lowell, she is kind of attractive though!  hahaha.
