Sam Rasoul's New Campaign Manager Speaks

Sam Rasoul, who is seeking the Democratic nomination for Congress in the 6th Congressional District, now has a campaign manager.  And he's a blogger.  According to Rick Howell:

Rick Howell Speaks hasn't spoken lately, because Rick Howell has been busy.

I've accepted a position as campaign manager for Democrat Sam Rasoul's insurgent campaign for Congress in the Sixth District.

Good luck to Rick Howell, including his "move from Lynchburg to Roanoke."  I don't know if there will be other Democratic contenders for the nomination in the Sixth CD, but for now, there aren't any and I wish Sam Rasoul luck.  One thing's for sure, as Rick Howell writes:

Democrats are starved for a candidate to face Congressman Bob Goodlatte, a conservative who has been a rubber stamp for Bush's war in Iraq, his refusal to address health care, his insistence upon a right-wing Supreme Court, and all the other well-known failures of the worst president we've ever had. He must be held accountable.

I couldn't agree more.  Good luck to Rick Howell, and also to the Democrats in the Sixth CD as they decide on the strongest candidate to take on Bob "Too Bad to Be" Goodlatte.

Thanks for this, Lowell. (kestrel9000 - 7/8/2007 8:36:06 AM)
I've met Sam a number of times and he has an energy and magnetism that has to be seen to be believed. His ideas are strong and clearly articulated, and he works a room like a pro. People love him. I'm excited about Sam's candidacy, and especially about his potential to energize young Dems in the 6th.
The guy is constantly on the move, meeting and greeting. I don't know how he does it. He and his lady seem to have an endless supply of energy, and they put it to good use.
Today is the final day of the Salem Fair. If you happen to be there, stop by Sam's booth and pick up some stickers, including the one I wear just about everywhere - the "Proud to be a 6th District Democrat" sticker.

Great things to come, I am sure of it!

What are the prospects for any other Dems (Lowell - 7/8/2007 8:47:30 AM)
running for the nomination?  Have you heard any rumors?

Seriously (WillieStark - 7/8/2007 12:20:42 PM)
Is that Sam Rasoul in the Uncle Sam outfit? God I hope not. We definitely need a serious candidate to take Goodlatte on. He needs an ass whipping but badly. Too bad that district is less than 40% DPI

What's wrong with wearing an Uncle Sam costume? (Lowell - 7/8/2007 12:33:31 PM)
As long as Sam doesn't put on a helmet like Mike Dukakis and start posing for photos in tanks, or take up duck hunting like John Kerry, I'm cool with it. :)

that's Sam (martha - 7/8/2007 12:29:05 PM)
He's young, has a lot to learn, is definitely youth oriented ( thus the costume I imagine), but serious about the issues.
Even if he doesn't win this time he will learn a lot and get name recognition.

Sixth District Politics (samrasoul - 7/11/2007 4:09:02 PM)
Thank you for your feedback on our recent addition of Rick Howell and on my costume that I proudly wore on July 4th.

In 2005, 3 million of 5 million potential voters(registered and not registered) did not vote in Virginia.  Our nation is ranked 114th in voter turnout in the world, with Italy at number 1 with 92% voter turnout.  I ask myself why are those 3 million voters not voting?  Simply put, they are disenfranchised with the political system as a whole.

Our great country was founded on the principles of "taxation without representation" and now we don't vote.  We must reconnect with our roots and evolve from this system of endless fundraising and political pandering.  Idealistic? Yes, but it is the truth and I must live with what I represent.

In my red district, politics-as-usual will not work.  If I were the "ideal" democratic candidate, I would stand no chance.  But I am different, and I come to this race raised in the district and with no political strings attached.  I will focus on people and issues that affect working America.  You can stay at home with your poli sci 101 text book, or you can help me rock this district and our great nation.
