JMDD to Chap - Mine's bigger than yours

I got a laugh out of the big balloon war between Chap and JMDD at yesterday's July 4th parade in Fairfax.  Does balloon size matter?  I wouldn't know, but it sure looks like JMDD was angling for the largest inflatable.

Below the fold are a few more photos from the parade.  I'll probably have a few more posts with parade pics - but to spare the RK community from photo overdose I'll keep all future July 4th pics off of the front page.  Look for them in the right hand side bar.
And there were soooo many balloons in the Republican camp [INSERT YOUR OWN HOT AIR JOKE HERE].

I don't believe I''m making this post...... (Used2Bneutral - 7/5/2007 11:50:12 AM)
Her choice of the color "Blue" is interesting, but the choice of a "Hot Air" style balloon that is by design "destined to float along un-guided always at the mercy of and in the winds of change" is definitely appropriate..... kinda like the promises of the Transpo law she brags about sponsoring....

Now it would be remiss not to highlight that Chap's "Air-Ship" has fins and a steering mechanisn to allow it to navigate the streams of hot air and go where it needs to. Kind of a metaphor for "Leadership"......

I'm sorry..... I promise I won't do this again... :-)

So is one full of hot air and one is potentially deadly and explosive? (Leonitis - 7/6/2007 10:20:43 AM)
I don't get the hot air balloon that JMDD has at all.  What's the message?

But CP's "it is not a blimp it is an airship" [apologies to Python] made me think of the Hindenburg, especially when I saw it whipping around on its moorings during the July 4th pre-storm winds. I don't get that balloon, either.  I have heard two or three people say it reminds them of the indoor blimp at basketball games that drops pizza coupons, so I'm bummed to see it produces no coupons.

Both odd choices.  It's like they got them at a balloon sale.  "Here, sell me one of those things out of the bargain rack."  The blimp is slightly cooler, although just as cryptic, so I guess CP got to the blue light special first.

I like to see politicians go with the classics.  Elephant and donkey.  To keep the color war to a minimum, orange elephant and blue donkey. Or red elephant and blue donkey.

Not Larry Sabato (NotLindaSmyth - 7/5/2007 12:50:49 PM)
This is really bad if true.  Is it true?

I don't know (Eric - 7/5/2007 2:03:49 PM)
Those are NLS sources so you'd have to talk to Ben about the overheard statements.  But I do know, as I posted on the NLS thread, that I did not see Gerry marching with the Democrats in the parade nor does he appear in any of nearly 400 photos I took.  And that wasn't intentional ;-)  I would have included him had I seen him.

I may have missed him, but it sure appears that he wasn't with  the Democrats yesterday.

The Electeds In the Front (NovaDem - 7/5/2007 3:42:04 PM)
Gerry was near the front of the parade in the section with the  Electedes.

Odd, I saw Gerry (Teddy - 7/5/2007 3:02:09 PM)
in the marshalling area by the Massey Building mingling with the Democrats

Maybe I missed him... (Eric - 7/5/2007 3:08:04 PM)
Perhaps he didn't have such a, er, noticeable shirt like he did last year.

Did he march with the Democrats?

Ummm.... (Leonitis - 7/6/2007 10:08:35 AM)
...what's that orange thing on G-meister's head?

He looks crazy.

Who stole whose colors? (phriendlyjaime - 7/5/2007 2:05:41 PM)
I was under the impression that Chap has been using blue and orange for some time.  Has JMDD always stolen his color scheme, or just this year?  Her blimp boys are in orange Ts and her balloons are blue.

This seems like a palette showdown!

Yeah - I was thinking (Eric - 7/5/2007 2:21:37 PM)
the same sort of thing.  Hmmmm....

On a related color issue, I must give props to Chap's team (and to Cooch's) for wisely using the white tee shirts for this parade.  I recall from last year many people were very hot (literally and figuratively) about being cooked in the dark Webb shirts.

Giving your volunteers a light color T-shirt when they'll be under a blazing sun in summer is a smart move and is looking after their comfort.

Yeah--I was thinking (voter4change - 7/5/2007 2:29:51 PM)
Come on people.....dedicated volunteers will walk on hot coals if they love the candidate.

What is a little heat!

Of course they'll be out! (Eric - 7/5/2007 2:38:48 PM)
The thing that struck me was not "if" they would march, but that someone on the campaign gave some thought to the comfort of the volunteers.  Even if it means the vols will be out of team colors for a day.

Necessary? Of course not.  The volunteers would be there anyway.

Classy and thoughtful?  Hell yeah.

I did notice Chap and Kohorts looked Kool and Kollected for the Kameras (Andrea Chamblee - 7/5/2007 4:18:05 PM)
As we all know, it's more important to look good than to feel good! As Billy Crystal would say, "he looks mahveliss."

I did notice.......... (voter4change - 7/5/2007 11:29:55 PM)
Must be the absence of the  bow tie!

See Chap followed RK poll and responded.............

Colors... (Leonitis - 7/6/2007 10:13:00 AM)
I thought orange and blue were like THE Virginia colors or something?  Each of these political gangs should choose one.  It looked as thought JMDD claimed orange and CP claimed blue, but now I am confused.

And what does that apparently orange 'do rag on Rap Master G's head mean (see the Not Larry Sabato link above)?

Confusing voters is all they have left (Rebecca - 7/6/2007 10:42:35 AM)
When all else fails, the Republicans will resort to pretending they are Democrats in hopes of fooling "some of the people some of the time". I expect to see more and more of this as the election appproaches.

Fox News "accidentally" labeled Foley a Democrat in one of their news shows. I am curious to see how many Republicans get themselves "accidentally" labled as Democrats before the next election.
