Google and the Plug-In Hybrid

Anyone who's seen "Who killed the electric car?" knows what a disaster it was to the energy independence when the Auto companies destroyed this critical technology.  Google is taking the lead and this is the difference between a company and a great company:  they are leading by example and standing up for what's right.

Google's stand on plug-in hybrids is important, but that alone doesn't make them a great environmental company.  By one rating, they're lagging behind Yahoo and Microsoft ...

Here is a link for doing your own Prius conversion to a PHEV (Plugin Hybrid Electric Vehicle).  Many limitations, but for city driving (10 miles, <40 MPH), good option.

Hymotion, the company working w/ Google, plans to have their system ready for individual installations via authorized resellers.  No word on cost, but they estimate a quick install of around 2 hours - so it sounds fairly simple.  If costs are reasonable this could be a big winner...
