Being Against the Iraq Occupation Isn't Enough

Ron Paul.  There's a ton of Buzz out there about Ron Paul, the libertarian, republican, Congressman from Texas who's running for President.  He's the Mike Gravel of the Republican party, bucking the party line in order to make waves without all that troublesome crazy built in.  He's the only Republican candidate who's openly against the Iraq War.  It's nice to see a thinking man in the mix on the other side of the aisle, and with all the buzz, some Democrats may be tempted to jump onboard.

Don't believe the hype!  Democrats, this is a guy who is such a libertarian, free-market, extremist that there's nothing he won't do.  Case in point... last week, Ron Paul introduced legislation to abolish the Federal Reserve:

110th CONGRESS

1st Session

H. R. 2755
To abolish the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and the Federal reserve banks, to repeal the Federal Reserve Act, and for other purposes.

IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

June 15, 2007
Mr. PAUL introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Financial Services

Obviously the Bush economy is drifting and has massive systemic problems deeply threatening America's economic future.  To abolish the single most powerful stabilizing force in the world's economy is tanamount to suicide.

Yeah, he's a good speaker and he's understands the virtual world of "free" markets.  Ron Paul is likeable, but this is profoundly insane.

A quick look at his positions should be enough to deter the support of any Democrat.  For example, while he's busy abolishing the Federal Reserve, he'd also eliminate the Department of Education and withdraw from the UN.  Heaven help us!
