Freshman Rep. Thelma Drake (R-VA) chimes in on a topic that she has little experience in:

Rep. Thelma Drake, R-Va., co-chaired a panel that focused on terrorism. ?What we?re really doing is trying to identify where there are gaps? between the U.S. military?s capabilities and the threats it must be ready to confront, she said.

One gap that has caught lawmakers? attention is ?the size of special operations forces,? Drake said. ?The wars we fight today are different from any wars we have fought before. More and more, they will be fought by special operations troops.?

Now, I'm not a military expert, but aren't we fighting a war right now with 120,000+ of those non-special ops troops?  Maybe someone should tell our Commander in Chief and his crew that Thelma Drake doesn't see eye-to-eye with their war games.  I'm sure her little panel will change their minds.

Thelma drones on:

Drake?s panel also examined how the military works jointly with other agencies that are involved in fighting the war on terrorism, such as the departments of Homeland Security and State, the Agency for International Development, the CIA and the FBI.

?It was clear to us right away that they don?t,? she said.

Should I go ahead and say it?  (Sigh) Ms. Drake, the departments and agencies you mention are part of the Bush administration.  They are supposed to be funded and overseen by the Republican-controlled Congress.  Any failure you see now belong to your party.  Thanks for the panel - but now that it's been four years since 9/11, can't we have your panels do more than investigating the same intel problems.?  You know, maybe actually go about fixing these same problems?
