This funding tracking is hard - and Tom Davis loves it that way.

The Post this week is reporting on the sentencing of Falls Church resident J. Stephen Griles for his illegal fundraising using the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana. This scheme was part of Abramoff's plan to churn money.  Boy, did it work!

Tom Davis collected his share of donations from the Griles and Abramoff scheme. When the tribes were asked how they chose their recipients, including Davis, they testified they had never heard of them.  Why would a Louisiana tribe donate to a Virginia Republican? They said the instructions came directly from Davis friend, now felon, Jack Abramoff.
From 2000 to 2001 and 2002, the years that included Davis's NRCC Chairmanship, the tribe's lobbying expenses went from $200,000 a year to over $2 million a year.

Griles hid his financial activities in several ways, including by using several employers and also claiming to be self-employed. He listed his name as James S. and J. Steven.  He donated under Virginia and DC addresses. For examples see VPAP and FEC.

And its alsmost impossible to find one company connected with Griles, which is called the "United Company." A name like that one seems to have been chosen for secrecy more then for branding.
