This is Stunning

Over at NLS, Ben continues to dig up shocking comments by Thomas Paine Thomas Paine Patriot George Burke.  For instance:

We don't like young toughs and gang bangers.  We don't like anti-semites and women haters like Webb and his merry band of gangsters.

and...

The face on the cartoon flyer is a head on shot and it depicts Miller in the same vein as the bad guy in the Nazi propaganda cartoons that Stafford Pundit is featuring on his website.

As Ben writes:

Wow.

More coming soon.  This was coming from a Chair of a Democratic Congressional Committee?!?!?!

I couldn't agree more.  Good work, Ben!

Comments

This is classic as well (Lowell - 6/14/2007 11:41:42 AM)
Courtesy of NLS:

After participating in private meetings with the Jim Webb campaign after the primary, here is what Burke had to say:

"Personally, I am offended by the antics of the Webb campaign and its inability to get off the ground since the primary.  They don't seem to want to listen to anyone but themselves.

Again, this was AFTER the primary, when Jim Webb was the DEMOCRATIC NOMINEEE for U.S. Senate against George Allen.  And here was George Burke, 11th CD committee chair, blasting the Webb campaign after meeting with them privately.  Nice, huh?

C'mon, George, why don't you defend yourself?  Are you going to own up to these comments, are you going to go back to a pseudonym again, are you going to keep sending your henchmen on here, or are you going to do the honorable thing and resign as chair?

Has there been confirmation? (Andrea Chamblee - 6/14/2007 12:54:59 PM)
There have been some comments that this is not Burke. Has anyone called Burke and asked him to reply? It doesn't seem fair to do this to a guy who must have been doing primary stuff all week and maybe is taking a day off.

I say that knowing not everyone agrees with the "primary stuff" he may or may not have been doing.

Has anyone actually verified that Burke and TPP are the same poster? The same IP on Cox doesn't mean anything. Those things release and renew occasionally. I'm just throwing out a cautionary suggestion.

I abhor the attitude of the "old school" in power who tosses away help from newcomers who haven't "done their time" and whose main contributions are questioning the status quo.  On the other had, I will also bet that a wave of change could be achieved by uppity newcomers if there were enough who could be persistent.  Especially without being rude doing it. It's hard not to get frustrated and blow your top from time to time while trying, but to make change it's necessary.

There's no doubt about it. (Lowell - 6/14/2007 1:00:33 PM)
The IP addresses match, the comments are all similar in terms of tone and content, Burke certainly hasn't denied it, etc., etc.  We've suspected this for a long time, but we thought it might be another person. Now, we're sure it's Burke because he posted under his own name and we were quickly able to match up the IP address.  Unless someone's hijacking his computer repeatedly to post comments in the same voice, tone, style, content, etc., it's him!

Yeah, he has denied it (Chris Guy - 6/15/2007 12:16:34 PM)
Which comes as no surprise to me.

Giggle (Silence Dogood - 6/14/2007 1:52:53 PM)
I'm not going to get into the issue of the flyer because I kind of thought it was poorly done in the first place.  But I do take issue with the phrase "We don't like young toughs and gang bangers."

Gang bangers?  Really?  Sen. Webb's supporters are some of the least gang-bangy, nerdiest people around.  I mean, heck, most of them spend half their day chatting about politics on the internet. ;)

He won't get away with this (Chris Guy - 6/14/2007 2:08:00 PM)
I'm absolutely livid. ANY person should be ashamed to write these things, let alone a Democrat! Let alone a Democrat in his position!

Steve Bunn not like George (Doug in Mount Vernon - 6/14/2007 4:33:12 PM)
I wish y'all would stop using this picture.

I do not think it's fair to tar Steve Bunn with the same brush, which using this picture does, I think.

He seems, or at least has to me in the past, to be somewhat sympathetic to the reformers in the FCDC.  Mind you, this was based on my substituting a few times for someone who couldn't attend FCDC Steering Committee meetings.  But still, I don't think Steve comes close to approaching the style or substance of the Strong-Arm Gang.

No guilt by association implied (brimur - 6/14/2007 4:50:08 PM)
I definitely did not see the picture as implying that Steve was somehow bad. I just think it was the picture of Burke that was available. Steve has certainly been an able leader in Lee.

Brimur, I wonder (LAS - 6/14/2007 9:26:57 PM)
are you from Lee district?

Yes I am (brimur - 6/15/2007 10:37:39 AM)
Why?

George, talk to us! (BettyLou - 6/14/2007 8:00:01 PM)
If there is another version of this? You or someone associated with you must respond.

Are these postings really yours?

I am old enough (unfortunately) to know that there are always two sides to any argument. I really want to hear your side.

Please respond. Somebody!

No, no, no (Chris Guy - 6/14/2007 8:54:17 PM)
See, that would require a spine.

I emailed him yesterday....no response.

Once a coward....

Here's another great quote (Chris Guy - 6/14/2007 8:44:45 PM)
from someone called 'miller4va' on NLS:

All you Webb fanboys are losers. You can't compete in the new global economy. Face it, you are has beens. Miller's facing the new realities and has proven that he's a winner. He's helped to create wealth and you guys just whine. The Unions are dead. Manufacturing is gone. No one cares. No wonder you'll only get Mountain people to vote for you.

I would give my left nut to find out who this coward is.

Ouch! (LAS - 6/14/2007 9:59:37 PM)
Dude, you shouldn't even kid around about something like that. You never know but that the devil may be listening...

That sounds like Schmidt (Kathy Gerber - 6/15/2007 12:36:12 AM)
Kevin Schmidt from Sterling VA.

NLS should out that guy (Alice Marshall - 6/15/2007 9:18:15 AM)
I don't believe in outing pseudonymous comments, but I think Ben should out that guy.
