Justin Wilson is declaring victory in Democratic nomination contest for city council in Alexandria. The election ended at 10 PM tonight.  Here's Wilson's message:

Thanks to the close to 2,000 Alexandria Democrats who showed up to vote in the Democratic Caucus. I was thrilled with the quality of the candidates running for the nomination, and I am honored to now be the Democratic Nominee for the Alexandria City Council. Again, thanks to all the candidates and voters and on to Victory on July 17th!

I am still waiting for the final vote count to be posted at the Alexandria Democratic Committee website

[UPDATE: It was a pretty close election, with Wilson getting 655 votes, Jim Lay 537 votes, Boyd Walker 466 votes, Lenwood Harris 208 votes, and Mark Feldheim 145 votes.]

[UPDATE #2:  According to the Washington Post:

The caucus attracted a higher-than-expected turnout for an unplanned, summer election, drawing about 2,000 voters.

Wilson will face Republican William C. "Bill" Cleveland, former vice mayor, in the special election to be held on July 17.

Things are hoppin' in Alexandria!]

Ha, he did in fact win :-) Justin got about 655 votes out of about 2000 votes cast (not bad since there were FIVE candidates).

Justin is just 28 years old!!!  I have socks older than him!  Congratulations, and as star trek says.. live long, and prosper.

I had a  Boyd Walker yrd sign, but  I have no problemos changing it to a Justin yard sign!

Good Dem. (Matt H - 6/11/2007 12:02:24 PM)
Pvogel (I think that I may know you):
Glad that you are fully on-board with Justin.  Though I supported Justin from the start, I would have strongly considered Boyd as a good alternative.
  United we must remain!
