[Unfortunately, the cloture vote failed 53-38, with 45 Ds + 1 I (Sanders) + 7 Rs for cloture = 53. Voting no were 37 Rs + 1 I (Lieberman). Stevens voted present. Not voting were 4 Ds and 3 Rs, including 4 presidential candidates (Biden, Dodd, McCain, Obama) and Johnson, who's still out ill. Clinton was there to vote.]
People for the American Way opposed the confirmation of Alberto Gonzales because the Attorney General "allows his legal judgment to be driven by his close relationship with the President rather than adherence to the law or the Constitution."

Now that Gonzales' threat to the rule of law has materialized, PFAW is sponsoring an online petition demanding that Gonzales resign or be removed from office.

The Senate has scheduled a no confidence vote on Monday.  The petition will be presented at that time.  If you believe in the rule of law and the U.S. Constitution, please sign the petition today!

Supreme Court judge-ship after this mess.

Gonzales's gun position is no big deal (Catzmaw - 6/11/2007 2:13:05 PM)
I'm much more appalled by his open and enthusiastic embrace of torture and his belief that the right of habeas corpus cannot be found in our Constitution or Bill of Rights.  He's a disgrace to the legal profession.

Agreed. (Susan P. - 6/11/2007 5:47:29 PM)
He should be impeached, disbarred, prosecuted, jailed, and then we'll figure out what to do with him.

Burning Questions:is DailyKos full of stupid people? (presidentialman - 6/12/2007 3:20:34 AM)
There's this classic comment that needs to be spread around. One person said why doesn't the Senate impeach Gonzo yet?  Hello, haven't you learned anything from the Clinton Impeachment circus?  The House gives out impeachment, not the Senate. The Senate can only try the person being accused.
