Vivian Paige Asks for Our Help

Vivian Paige, being the usual, decent, caring person she is, has posted, what seems to me, a very justified call for help.  Her story, Governor Please Expedite this Pardon, rightly requests that we join her in contacting Governor Kaine for his assistance in getting a gentleman's record cleared of a crime that he did not commit, after serving 22 years in jail!

Although he has been out of jail for almost 3 years, the Virginia bureaucracy has denied him his rightful record of innocence.  He petitioned Governor Kaine in December 2005 but according to Vivian, his record still has not been corrected.

She's asked the blogging community to write Governor Kaine and ask him to correct the record of Arthur Whitfield.  It's the right thing to do.

To save any of you the time.... (Dianne - 6/5/2007 7:36:02 PM)
here's the gist of the request that I sent to the Governor.  Copy and paste it, if you like.

Governor Kaine,

Vivian Paige, today on her web page, asked the blogging community to assist her in requesting that you please take the necessary actions to correct the record of Arthur Whitfield. It is my understanding that DNA evidence proved Mr. Whitfield innocent of the crime, for which he served 22 years in prison.  It is also my understanding that Mr. Whitfield petitioned your assistance in December 2005 yet his record still has not been corrected.

Thanks (Vivian J. Paige - 6/5/2007 7:47:08 PM)
This guy deserves to have his record cleared.

If he was proven innocent, his record should be cleared (relawson - 6/6/2007 8:04:47 PM)
I don't know details of this case, but it is a no-brainer.  If the state wrongly convicted a person, the record should be corrected.

Agreed (Vivian J. Paige - 6/7/2007 9:53:22 AM)
Unfortunately, there is no mechanism for doing that. The only alternative at this point is a gubernatorial pardon.
