Do as I Say, Not as I Say

Virginia Republicans, think long and hard about what you say and/or blog about the 28th District Senate race between the Democratic nominee Albert Pollard and Republican Richard Stuart in the coming months.

Shortly after winning the GOP primary, Mr. Stuart took out an ad in the Northern Neck News to thank the "overwhelming support" he recieved on election day (apparently 1,068 people in a SENATE district qualifies as "overwhelming" these days). But he didn't stop there. Stuart also made the following pledge:

While I promise you that I will fight hard and tirelessly for this seat, I give you my word as a Virginia Gentleman that I will not participate in any negativity and will not condone any on my behalf.
Yeah, OK. Good luck with that Rick. Obviously you don't know your way around VA's right-wing blogosphere. By the time they get done with Pollard, who's one of the most decent people you will ever meet, he'll be Joseph Stalin meets Barbara Lee.
But the good news for the right is that Stuart's idea of negativity apparently doesn't include calling Pollard "as liberal as they come" or changing your position on abortion and taxes on a daily basis. Don't believe me? Here's King George Republican Party chair, John Headley, courtesy of the King George Journal's uber-conservative political blog Swamp Thing:
Headley says he does not know which direction the Stuart campaign will take, but notes, ?Albert Pollard is no Ted Kennedy.? Headley points out that Stuart?s position on the right to life issue has changed. ?In a candidates meeting in Northumberland, he supported Roe v. Wade. But, now Stuart states that he?s totally pro-life. I am not certain Richard Stuart knows who Richard Stuart is.? He says he thinks Stuart will continue to move to the right and pull other candidates to the right in response to a clear conservative message from the voters in the district.
Hmmm, maybe that's a misprint. Because as we all know, the Northern Neck is supposed to be Stuart country. Right?

The fractures that currently exist amongst 28th district Republicans are a long way from healing. Even after their loyalty oath, joke of a primary.

Would (they) have rather had dinner out with Richard? (oncerednowblue - 6/7/2007 4:48:18 PM)
Wow...over $70 a vote!

Instead, he could've taken all those nice Northern Neck Republicans who voted for him out to a nice four-star restaurant! (Surely, for the faithful 1000 it would have been more satisfying.)

Must be nice spending other people's money...thanks Chich!
