According to the Alexandria GOP website (there are Republicans in Alexandria?!? ha):

In the 45th Delegate District, our GOP nominee is Alexandria attorney Mark S. Allen, taking on incumbent Democratic Delegate David Englin. Check back for updates on the Allen campaign.

Wasn't this the same guy who was going to run as a Democrat in the primary on June 12?  Verrrrry interesting.

Flip-Flopper BIG-TIME! (Matt H - 6/5/2007 10:56:35 AM)
I am a member of the Alex. Dem.s and as clear as a bell, I heard and saw the very same Mark Allen, get up before our monthly meeting and state that he would challenge Dave Englin in the Democratic primary earlier this spring.

His talk was out of the Chamber of Commerce's playbook, and though I don't speak for the Alex. Dems. the group of members that I sit with were shocked that he was challenging our wonderful incumbent delegate, Dave Englin.

Mark Allen is either a first-class flip-flopper, or a first-class phony.  You make the call.

Can anyone say identity crisis? (Not Harry F. Byrd, Sr. - 6/5/2007 11:23:42 AM)
I guess when you're the GOP in Alexandria, you'll take what you can get....

Weird (TheGreenMiles - 6/5/2007 11:42:05 AM)
Is this Allen guy just desperate for public office any way he can get it or what?

Yes. (Lowell - 6/5/2007 1:52:47 PM)
Sure seems that way!

Man I'd hate to be that guy (brimur - 6/5/2007 4:07:34 PM)
As hard as it must be to get embarrassed when you're running as a Republican in Alexandria, Arlington, and Mount Vernon- I believe David Englin is the candidate that can administer said embarrassment. What do you think? 40.. 45 point victory?

It was 68%-32% for Englin the last time. (Lowell - 6/5/2007 6:13:45 PM)
I see no reason why the Republican would do any better this time.

So how is this Allen fellow on gun rights? (opencarry - 6/6/2007 10:06:10 PM)
I'd like to hand out some campaign literature this season while open carying on the boardwalk in Old Town.
