NRA Endorses Democrat

So, it turns out that the National Rifle Association (NRA) isn't so hostile to Democrats after all.  Yesterday, the group broke Republicans' hearts by endorsing Democratic state Senator Creigh Deeds for Attorney General "on behalf of the tens of thousands of National Rifle Assocaition members in Virginia," and as a consquence of Deeds' "impressive record" on "issues facing law-abiding gun owners" during his 14 years as a Delegate and Senator.  The NRA also handed out an "A" rating to Senator Deeds, who is now all but assured of coasting to victory on November 8 against his Republican opponent.

In particular, the NRA cited Deeds's sponsorship of a state constitutional amendment in 2000 that guaranteed the right to hunt and fish in Virginia.  Interestingly, Tim Kaine "was the legal counsel in the effort to amend the Virginia Constitution to give Virginians the right to hunt and fish constitutionally."  Tim Kaine also was one of the fathers of the NRA-praised "Operation Exile" in Richmond.  Finally, Tim Kaine has spoken only of enforcing existing gun laws and not adding any more.  In other words, if the NRA can endorse Creigh Deeds, there's no reason why it can't endorse Tim Kaine as well.  That is, if the NRA is truly a bipartisan group as it's indicated so clearly with its endorsement of Creigh Deeds.

Anyway, congratulations to our next Attorney General, Creigh Deeds, "an advocate for all Virginians."  Unlike the previous Attorney General, now running for Governor, that is.
