The Staunton News Leader reports that Democrats now have a nominee for State Senate in the 24th District (Rockbridge, Rockingham, Augusta, Albemarle and Highland Counties, plus Lexington, Staunton, and Waynesboro).  The nominee, who will face Libertarian candidate Arin Sime as well as either Scott Sayre (extreme-right-wing R) or Emmett Hanger (slightly-less-extreme-right-wing R) this November, is David Cox, "a retired Lexington pastor."  He defeated Will Hrovat of Churchville by a vote of 28-9.  According to the News Leader:

Cox, who ran unsuccessfully in 2005 against Ben Cline to represent the 24th House of Delegates District, said he looked forward to offering a viable alternative to Republican leadership in the senate.

"My values are broadly shared by the rank and file and I represent the center," he said during one of the question-and-answer sessions. "The center is the least safe place to be, sadly. But it's also the place where people are most likely to gather."

Cox said the upcoming three-way race between Libertarian candidate Arin Sime of Crozet and a Republican to be chosen at the June 12 primary presented Democrats with a good shot at the 24th District.

I wish Mr. Cox well, and offer the assistance of the RK community in his State Senate run.

P.S. Democracy in Virginia has more on this nomination.

Go, David, go! I'm soooo glad to hear this; I was afraid he'd give up politics after the last try...
