This is interesting:

A Virginia state Senate candidate has been indicted by a Loudoun County grand jury on charges of election fraud and perjury allegedly committed during his current campaign and a previous bid for the same office.

Mark David Tate, 41, a restaurateur and former vice mayor of Middleburg, was indicted Monday on two counts of election fraud and nine counts of perjury by the grand jury. He is out of jail on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear June 5 in Loudoun County Circuit Court.

The indictments, which were made public today, come three weeks before Republican voters go to the polls June 12 to choose between Tate and Jill Holtzman Vogel of Warrenton for the Republican nomination for the 27th District, which covers parts of Loudoun and Fauquier counties and all of Clarke and Frederick counties and Winchester City. The seat is currently held by Sen. H. Russell Potts Jr. (R-Winchester), who is retiring.

Never a dull moment in Republican politics, huh?  By the way, Tate calls himself a "Ronald Reagan conservative" on his website.  Is this how "Ronald Reagan conservatives" behave?

Of course it is.
We learn more daily about how they have cheated and lied since the stolen election of 2000.

If you are a believer, you must wonder if Ronald and Richard gave Jerry a warm welcome "down there"?

Buy shiny stuff, worship celebrity, leave the driving to us.

Do you think this will hurt his chances in the primary? (Susan P. - 5/22/2007 6:16:23 PM)
Or is it just a given that 50% of the Republican candidates are under indictment?

P.S. From Holtzman-Vogel's Bio (Susan P. - 5/22/2007 6:21:51 PM)
"During November and December of 2000, she served as counsel in the Florida Presidential Recount, acting on behalf of the Bush-Cheney campaign in West Palm Beach and in Osceola County."
Grrr.

Another day, another "Reagan" Republican goes down. (Different Drum - 5/23/2007 2:05:05 AM)
These are the gravy days.  God knows I waited for them during the '80s.  But they didn't much happen.  Sure, we got a few convictions, but...

Poor Republicans.  All they have is Reagan.  And thet's an awfully low standard of competence to hold yourself to.  And they can't even uphold that one.

Kind'a like comparing "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country,"  and "Ketchup is a vegetable."

Mark Tate indicted (Tigman - 5/23/2007 6:48:10 PM)
Some of the News reports were most interesting in their detail.  For instance, in the Leesburg Today article the Loudoun Commonwealth's Attourney stated that Vogel's baby sitter, a Vogel supporter (uh huh), reported the violations.  Wow, a forensic accountant for a babysitter!  Who is experienced in reading and interpreting campaign finance reports with knowledge of what might be suspect under complicated campaign finance law no less!  What luck!
But, as noted in the Northern VA Daily -
The babysitter immediately offered a detailed recollection of Vogel refusing to get involved!  Lucky to also have a baby sitter who can confidently contact exactly the right authorities, get them to take the desired action, and keep the whole matter quiet all along.  And oh yes, get the indictment before the primary and released without details just in time for the news deadline of most weekly newspapers in the area!
Vogel seems regularly smitten with overzealous friends doing dirty work behind her back and naturally beyond her control.
