If you're interested in George Allen's thoughts on the 2008 Republican Presidential race, click here.  A few highlights:

*Served with John McCain and Rudy Giuliani.  Gotten along very well together. John McCain was a good ally on keeping internet free from taxation.  Allen was absolutely opposed to McCain's campaign finance reforms.

*Doesn't know Gov. Romney, positions he's taking today aren't necessarily the same ones he took before (but the positions he's taking today are good ones)

*Knows Gov. Huckabee...likes him a lot.

*Duncan Hunter is a "great guy, I really like Duncan."

*Gov. Gilmore..."I know him well."

*Doesn't know Ron Paul.

*Tommy Thompson, great record in Wisconsin, "very admirable individual."

*The best indicator for people trying to discern who to support is what their past record is.

*I think you'll see more individuals getting in the race...Newt Gingrich and Fred Thompson ("I really like Fred...respects - as did Ronald Reagan - the concept that not all wisdom resides in Washington").

*Lots of talk about looking for another Ronald Reagan.  Allen shares the concern about Republicans looking for someone with "true conservative values across the board."

Is that really all George has to say about his good friend Jim? Hmmm

George Allen (railfanbob - 5/22/2007 6:13:32 PM)
on Romney: "He think's he's a mighty hunter of varmints does he?  I was stuffin' deer heads in mailboxes back when he was still in diapers."

on Giuliani: "Let's give a big welcome to Macaca there, or whatever his name is.  Welcome to America and to the real world of Virginia!"

on Tancredo: "*Another* Italian-American?  Good grief.  Here goes again: Let's give a big welcome to Macaca there, or whatever his name is.  Welcome to America and to the real world of Virginia!"

on McCain: "I was stuffin' deer heads in mailboxes back when he was in the Hanoi Hil..er...never mind."

on Gilmore: "I know him well.  Next question please.  No, I will *not* elaborate."

on Paul: "I don't know him.  What do you mean, 'suuure you don't know him?'"

on Brownback, Huckabee, and Hunter: "This was supposed to be *my* race to be the real conservative in, dammit!  Waaaaahh!"

on Tommy Thompson: "Let's give a big welcome to Macaca there, or whatever his name...wait a sec, you mean Wisconsin *isn't* a Canadian province?"

on Newt Gingrich and Fred Thompson: "I think you'll see more individuals getting in the race.  Now these two, they're real good old boys.  Which reminds me, did I ever show y'all my collection of hangin' nooses?"
