Al Gore: Bush and Cheney "Unfit to Lead Our Nation"

Sadly, Jimmy Carter has backed off a bit on his totally truthful comments the other day that the Bush Administration is the worst every in American history, at least in terms of foreign policy.  Luckily, Al Gore is now speaking out in his new book, "The Assault on Reason."  According to Gore, and I think he speaks for nearly all Democrats and a heck of a lot of independents here:

...if "Bush and Cheney actually believed in the linkage (between Iraq and al Qaeda) that they asserted -- in spite of all the evidence to the contrary presented to them contemporaneously -- that would by itself in light of the available evidence, make them genuinely unfit to lead our nation. On the other hand, if they knew the truth and lied, massively and repeatedly, isn't that worse?  Are they too gullible or too dishonest?"

Too gullible or too dishonest?  How about a heaping pile of both?

Gore's logic and conclusions are spot on!!!! (Dianne - 5/22/2007 8:47:10 AM)

I wonder how many people are left in this country (Lowell - 5/22/2007 8:51:52 AM)
who really support Bush and Cheney, as opposed to just kneejerk "loyalty" to the Republican Party?  Honestly, if I were a Republican right now, I'd be disgusted, angry and ashamed to have Bush and Cheney as the leaders of my (once great) party.

If you think Al Gore is critical of Bush and Cheney (Catzmaw - 5/22/2007 9:23:45 AM)
you should hear the comments by Victor Gold, a conservative Republican of impeccable credentials, before the Cato Institute last week.  He described Bush as weak, and savagely attacked Cheney for cowardice and extremist idiocy.  He described their pairing as a co-presidency and said no vice president has ever had the huge staff that Cheney has.  He attacked the decision to fly Bush around in Air Force One on 9-11 instead of just bringing him back to the White House.  He ridiculed the decision to hide Cheney from public view and to absent himself from Bush's State of the Union in 2002.  He pointed out that the entire government attended that SOTU, but that if Al Qaeda could somehow make it past all the forces of the United States military, the FBI, the Secret Service, and the Capitol Police, that the idea seemed to be that America could rest assured that they would still have President Cheney.

Gold has written a book called "Invasion of the Party Snatchers" in which he decries the destruction of the Republican party by the neocons and the theocons.  He thinks it would be the best thing in the world for the Republicans to lose big-time in 2008 because it might bring them to their senses.

Carter backed off because.. (bladerunner - 5/22/2007 11:36:54 AM)
he was probably pressured to do so for the good of the nation. When he stated it, it was from his heart. Kind of funny to watch him back peddle, but he still believes it, just like most Americans think Bush is AN IDIOT!!!!!!!!

How low can Bush go? (Lowell - 5/22/2007 4:04:00 PM)
Or, perhaps the better question is, how on earth can 31% of American still approve of the worst President ever?

Amen (norman swingvoter - 5/22/2007 7:08:14 PM)
I would have to consider these as falling into one of 2 categories:  1) The hopelessly gullible 2) people who only care about 1-2 issues and absolutely ignore everything else

I bought.. (Terry85 - 5/23/2007 3:08:28 PM)
"The Assault On Reason"  yesterday, and can't wait to read it, but I'm trying to finish 'Dog Days' first.
