Rex McCarty's Mother

OK, you know things have gotten pretty desperate with the Terry Kilgore Krew in Scott County when his supporters start dragging in the family relations of challenger Rex McCarty.  The other day, I received an e-mail asking, "if rex mccarty is so nice and down to earth, ask him why he has not talked to his mother in abt a year . practically since his father died."  I e-mailed the McCarty campaign, not really expecting a response, but just to give them yet another example of how pitiful and vicious Terry Kilgores' supporters can be.  I mean, c'mon, how pathetic can you be, dragging Rex's mother - who is NOT a public official, like Scott County registrar of Voters Willie Mae Kilgore, I might add -- into this race?

Anyway, here's the response from Rex's campaign to the concerned Kilgore supporter (he said he had absolutely nothing to hide and would be happy for people to know this information):

The truth is, it has been two years since Rex has been to his mother's home. That was when two of his brothers conspired to have Rex's mother sign over her property to them, not Rex. Rex actually could have signed the property over to himself, as his father's power of attorney. His father's will left specific requests that the property be sold to care for Rex's mother. However, those brothers not only kept that from happening, they also voided the instructions of Rex's father.

Rex's father's will specifically stated, "I, Jack Lee McCarty, desire that all my estate, real and personal, be sold and the net proceeds of this sale be divided among my twelve children." That  same language was used in his mother's will at the time, though that will is now void with the transfer of property to the two brothers.

The will also stated that "If any beneficiary questions or contests the dispositions or decisions made by the executor (which was Rex, the eighth child, by the way) they shall forfeit all rights as a beneficiary of this will."

You see, while you may like to paint Rex as some type of Ogre or bad person, Rex followed his father's last will and testament. Since that time in which his brothers became hostile, Rex has been unable to return home because matters would become worse if he were to confront these menacing brothers, even by accident. I believe the family situation reflects the biblical stories of Cain and Able and the story of Joseph who was sold into slavery by jealous brothers. Believe me, if Rex's mother ever needed anything, he would not hesitate to go to her. However, Rex wishes his mother to live out her days without family feuds devastating the family she loved and cared for. This situation is an unfortunate circumstance he has chosen to avoid.

Rex is nice and down to Earth, just like the interview conveyed. So, call Rex for yourself, or better yet, go visit him. He has his father's will and other documents that undisputedly confirm these statements. Yes, Rex is not a Saint, but he is a good man and has always been a good son.

So, there you have it.  Rex McCarty is a loyal son, honoring his father's last wishes, and now betrayed by his "Cain and Abel" brothers.  Sound like a soap opera?  If not, just throw in the added plot twist of a deeply worried Kilgore Krew dragging all this family business into the race.  Do you think that Jerry's twin brother Terry is just a wee bit worried that he's going DOWN on  November 8?  Wel, if he isn't, maybe he should be, especially given the pathetic, negative, embarrassing, slime-ridden campaign he's running?

In contrast, Rex McCarty is running a positive campaign for the First House of Delegates District, about a better future for Southwest Virginia  Here's a challenge:  I dare anyone to speak with Rex McCarty for more than 2 minutes and tell me they don't think he's great.  Go ahead, contact him at rex@electrex.org or 276-386-2455.  As Rex said, he has nothing to hide.  Give him a call today!
