Hugo Mail

Posted by Mike Burns for Morris Meyer

First of all I would like to thank the Raising Kaine Community one more time for its endorsement. Raising Kaine has become an important part of the progressive community in Virginia and I think it portends great things for the future of this state that we are all working together to elect people with progressive ideas, progressive values, and strong character throughout this state.

Tim Hugo, the current Delegate in the 40th district, recently sent out a mailing to the 40th, which clearly had the goal of misleading the district and obfuscating the truth about the recent Transportation Funding Reform Act. You can see my full response to this mailing on my website at www.MorrisMeyer.com.  But I think the central issue is that Tim Hugo is trying to spin this bill in an effort to maintain support for what was clearly a Republican attempt to hijack the states General Fund.

Tim Hugo is proud of the $3 billion dollar bond package that came as a part of this bill, but what he hasn't told you and won't tell you, is that he is mortgaging your children's future to pay for these changes. Hugo also will not tell you that here in Northern Virginia we will have to increase our own taxes even further than the rest of the State. While Northern Virginia has been granted the right to increase our own taxes and keep the money here, there is nothing in the transportation bill that shifts the current funding formula or guarantees that Northern Virginia will finally get the appropriate share of the over all state funds. There is a better way, and by sending more Democratic Delegates to Richmond we will get there.

What is most telling though is that this mailing attempts to refute important points that Morris Meyer has been sharing with voters at their doors, and at events throughout the district. The truth of the matter is that Tim Hugo has heard what Morris has told thousands of voters in the 40th district and now Hugo is trying to hide from those truths. (Hugo's mail pieces uses language almost verbatim from the messages that Meyer volunteers leave while phone banking).

Are you posting as "NovaDem" as well as "Morris Meyer?"  Just a suggestion, but you might want to stick with "Morris Meyer" just to avoid any confusion.  Thanks!

Hey Sorry Lowell Morris sent me the text while he was at work and asked me to put this up for him, so he could go straight from work to canvassing.

NovaDem is Mike Burns, and I am the campaign manager for Morris Meyer for the 40th House of Delegates district.

Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks for clearing that up, Mike... (Lowell - 5/14/2007 8:36:45 PM)
...and good luck in the last 30 days!
