Al Gore (G-TN)

Howard Fineman needs to be committed.

In a recent Newsweek column, Howard Fineman writes about the potential impact that an Independent could have on the '08 presidential race. With the early primary calendar the way it is, Fineman writes, there will be a 7 month gap until the nominating conventions. That's unprecendented in American politics and leaves plenty of time for buyer's remorse to set in.

Then Fineman just starts to speculate and comes across as a hack in the process.
He mentions the usual suspects when its comes to who may or may not run as a third party candidate. Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-NE), Mayor Mike Bloomberg (R-NYC), and Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) are possibilities from the standpoint that they've all demonstrated some form of presidential aspirations in the past, and none of the 3 are on good terms with their own party.

Oh, and another name Howard Fineman throws out? AL GORE! Yes, that Al Gore. I'm not kidding. I'm also not going to insult anybody's intelligence by explaining how unbelievably ironic and stupid this possibility is. Here's Fineman:

But as Gore and Bloomberg say nice things about each other, in public and private, there is another possibility: that the former vice president would consider, or support, an independent candidacy outside of the traditional process. There already is a Green Party, by the way, that has been successful at getting on state ballots.
You know what else is a possibilty? John Edwards could leave his wife for Ann Coulter. George W. Bush could shave his head and have his name legally changed to Osama W. Hitler. Also, I'll give anybody 1,000,000,000-1 odds that Pat Robertson comes out of the closet by noon on Friday.

Fineman's lost it or he's desperate to write something "orginal" (Dianne - 5/9/2007 9:28:08 AM)
Great diary, Chris.

I despise the Green Party (Chris Guy - 5/9/2007 2:23:26 PM)
and others like them. Mass protests outside of the L.A. Democratic National Convention in 2000. MIA during the GOP's convention that year in Philly.

They're supposed to be a "green" party and kept Al Gore out of the White House, of all people. His focus on global warming started many, many years before 'An Inconvenient Truth'.
