Good evening, RK bloggers!  I am very proud to report that at 2:30 P.M. on Wednesday, May 9, Dr. Michael J. Breiner will be formally announcing his Democratic candidacy for the Virginia State Senate's 22nd district seat.  Dr. Breiner's announcement will take place at the entrance to the Lewis-Gale Medical Center on Braeburn Drive in Salem.

Please go to http://www.breinerfo... for more information about Dr. Breiner, an accomplished surgeon and a dedicated family man.  I can assure you that you will be most impressed with what you see there.

The State Senate's 22nd district seat has been held by a Republican for a number of years, but the incumbent now has a strong intra-party challenger and the primary will be held on Tuesday, June 12.

In the meantime, Dr. Breiner has been doing his homework and assembling his election team, and he has already received some very impressive financial contributions and other significant pledges of assistance and support.
I was introduced to Mike Breiner by Dick Cranwell nearly a year ago when a sizeable number of us attended the Botetourt County Democratic Committee's annual "Red, White and Blue Jeans" fundraiser in Fincastle.  At that time, Mike was already beginning to formulate his plans for this campaign, and now he's ready to move forward.

Since first meeting him last year, I have come to know Mike Breiner quite well and have been most impressed with his strong intellect, obvious compassion for others and keen sense of humor.  For the past two months I have worked closely with Mike and his core campaign staff, and I have no doubt that Mike Breiner will be one impressive State Senator.

Dr. Mike Breiner intends to make affordable, available health care one of his top campaign themes.  Currently, there are no physicians in the State Senate and only one medical doctor in the House.  Therefore, when elected, Dr. Breiner will bring to the General Assembly a clear voice and a fresh perspective in regard to this vitally important issue.

Please go to Mike Breiner's campaign website at http://www.breinerfo... closely review his background and qualifications, and then join with me in supporting Mike for the State Senate.

This is the year for Democrats to take back Virginia, and Dr. Mike Breiner's election victory in November will move us one big step closer to that goal in the State Senate!

Please stay tuned...

Thanks!

Steve

Good People (samrasoul - 5/8/2007 7:45:14 AM)
What defines a leader?  We could all derive our own answer, but one virtue that we can all agree upon is CHARACTER.

I believe today more than ever, we should be looking for good people to fill our legislature.  Mike is a good man, who wants honest change in our commonwealth.  We should not just wish him well, we should begin to talk to our friends and neighbors about true progress by electing Mike Breiner.

But I sure like the sound of a non-lawyer in the Virginia Senate!

The last link had a comma in it. (Lowell - 5/8/2007 8:52:51 AM)
I've fixed it.

Lowell; thanks so much for moving my diary about Dr. Mike Breiner's State Senate candidacy to the RK front page, along with his photograph, and also for providing the link to the NLS piece about the State Senate's 22nd district.  As usual, you and this cyber community have already exceeded my expectations!

I don't read or post to any other political blogs and, when Mike and his campaign staff and I were discussing various duties and responsibilities during our weekly meeting at his home this past Sunday, I immediately volunteered to post this message to RK.

I have no doubt that you and RK will "stay tuned", please keep up the great work, and thanks again!

Steve

Sounds like another fine Democrat popping up around Southwest and Southside Virginia. GO MIKE BREINER!

More medical people in the GA (cvllelaw - 5/8/2007 12:43:21 PM)
This year a number of people with actual hands-on experience in the health care world are running, which is wonderful news for a General Assembly virtually devoid of actual knowledge of one of the most vexing issues government faces.  It sometimes seems that there are more people in the General Assembly who believe in faith healing than believe in medicine.  Tim Kaine campaigned on wanting to do something about health care.  It's no wonder that his efforts haven't borne fruit.

Now Democrats will be running Mike Breiner and Ralph Northam, both doctors, in the Senate, and Connie Brennan, a nurse practitioner, in the House (59th District).

They are all running for seats currently held by folks who either are Republicans or vote with the Republicans, so this can only be good!
