Gilmore for President? But I'm Still Paying Car Tax!

I read this in the Washington Post this morning:

Former Virginia governor Jim Gilmore officially kicked off his presidential campaign with a Web cast from his campaign site while visiting the Iowa Republican Party.

In order to run for President, don't you actually have to accomplish something?
I mean, Bush is awful, but he did get a few things done while he was Governor of Texas and worked across party lines there. Of course, it was all a ruse to get the big chair. But Jim Gilmore? The man who nearly killed the finances of the most fiscally responsible state in the nation? The man who ran his campaign and the state on a platform of fear and freedom from taxes, and then failed to deliver on both? President?

And I'm not the only one who thinks so. He's failed to impress the Republican grassroots in the very place he announced.

While it may be difficult to select a winner among the candidates at the Iowa Lincoln Unity Dinner - it is simple to select the loser. The loser was, former Virginia governor, Jim Gilmore. When I saw Gilmore's name on the list, I had to Google him to see who he was. Those more connected than I probably knew him but, to this grassroots guy, he was a complete cipher.

I'm gonna pop some popcorn and watch this one, it should be entertaining.

Vanity Candidates (Susan P. - 4/27/2007 2:05:11 PM)
I heard someone call Joe Biden a vanity candidate.  Well, Jim Gilmore is the most vain of all vanity candidates.  According to the Virginian-Pilot, Gilmore has raised a grand total of $90,107.  With Gilmore's track record, he can expect to sweep the circle of his immediate family and close personal friends, at least those who moved from Virginia or were in a coma during his governorship.  That ought to bring the total to about 12, at most.  Good luck, Jim!

Yeah, but make sure.... (ericy - 4/27/2007 2:05:14 PM)
