In support of her annual Conference on Women's Health & the Environment, Teresa Heinz Kerry is conducting a "blog tour" of the United States, stopping at 16 different blogs, providing each with an exclusive individual interview, and exploring with each blog the subject of women's health and how the environment might be affecting us. One of her stops is VB Dems, on Friday, April 27, 2007. "There was a shocking lack of scientific research and policy discussion on the potential environmental causes of rising rates of various types of illness," said Ms. Heinz on what inspired her to first convene this conference in 1996. "It was almost as though no one wanted to consider the possibility that we might be poisoning ourselves through our environment."
This year's conference, "New Science, New Solutions", features an illustrious panel of highly respected scientists, environmentalists and activists. Participants walk away from the conference armed with strategies for raising the discussion with policymakers and asking them specifically "How is our health being affected by the environment, and what can we do about it?"
