Downballot Poll Numbers

Ahh... a new poll for us political junkies.  The Richmond TimesDispatch has come out with its down ballot poll numbers, and they're very encouraging, with both races within the margin of error.

July poll numbers in ()
Bolling(R) 39 (37)
Byrne(D) 36 (34)
Undecided 25 (29)

and

McDonnell(R) 36 (35)
Deeds(D) 33 (34)
Undecided 31 (31)

MoE+/- 4 Percentage Points

That these downballot races are so close, despite the fact that most voters haven't even heard of the candidates, bodes very well for November.  Take a moment to go read the article about it.  Then go do something for Byrne or Deeds.

UPDATE: (Stolen from the same article):

Later this week, candidates for lieutenant governor and attorney general are scheduled to debate at Virginia Commonwealth University. The debates will begin Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the school's student commons between Floyd and Main streets.

Need detailed directions, etc. to the debate?  Let me know.

I don't understand h (Alex - 4/4/2006 11:28:10 PM)
I don't understand how ANYONE outside of the whack-job Pat Robertson clan would think about supporting someone as disgusting as McDonnell, especially next to someone as upstanding and moderate as Deeds.  We need to get him out there, NOW!

None of the four can (Sam Penney - 4/4/2006 11:28:10 PM)
None of the four candidates have moved outside of the margin of error, so I'm inclined to disagree with your thesis that McDonnell is drawing from Deeds.  What these numbers say to me is that both races will go down to the wire, and that the candidate with the more money, better volunteer base, and best GOTV will win, regardless of party lines or what happens elsewhere on the ticket.

My point about poll (Matusleo - 4/4/2006 11:28:10 PM)
My point about poll numbers at this stage of the game regarding the top of the ticket holds true here as well.  How things play out from here on in is going to determine which of the candidates comes out on top.

I am greatly encouraged by seeing Deeds have twice as much money on hand as does McDonnell.  Further, Deeds support amongst the hunteing and fishing community is a great asset that I think may help pull him over the top.  I'm less bullish on Byrne, but if she runs strong in NoVa and the other urban/suburban areas she should also do well.
