From the Donald McEachin for State Senate campaign.  Go Donald!!!

Virginia's Teachers Announce McEachin Endorsement in Democratic Primary

He Has Been a "Stalwart Supporter of Public Education and Virginia Students"

Richmond - The Virginia Education Association has announced its strong support and endorsement for Delegate Donald McEachin in his campaign to be the Democratic nominee for the Ninth Senatorial District. Delegate McEachin today expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the VEA endorsement.

"One of our most important responsibilities as public servants is to support public education. We need to ensure that our students and teachers get the resources and help they need and deserve. We want to ensure our children have a top notch twenty-first century education and for that to happen, we need to be their strongest backers," Delegate McEachin said.

Princess Moss, President of the Virginia Education Association, added, "Delegate McEachin has been there for us.  His opponent supports and has supported draining funding from public education for private schools. In this climate, while we have struggled to get even adequate resources for our needy public schools, Benny Lambert has advocated for vouchers which support wealthy prep schools at the expense of our public school students."

Wade Ellegood, President of the Richmond Education Association continued, "We are fortunate to have such a good friend of public education as we have in Delegate McEachin. We are confident that with Delegate McEachin in the Virginia State Senate, our students, teachers and staff will be the beneficiaries."

Finally, Princess Moss concluded, "In this race, there was no comparison - an incumbent who has thwarted our efforts to help public schools, students, teachers and support staff or Delegate McEachin who has been a longtime stalwart friend who we can count on. We encourage all friends of education to go to the polls on June 12 and vote for Delegate McEachin, who supports our educational values. "

So what has McEachin Done...?? (FreemanHokie - 4/28/2007 7:22:16 PM)
I understand that Benny has brought upon himself the scorn of the VEA because of his support for vouchers.  But what has McEachin done besides oppose vouchers? Vouchers are one of hundreds of incremental solutions for ailing school systems...if implemented correctly. But there are other options that may work better.  What does McEachin propose happen if vouchers are not going to used.  They VEA will not admit that schools are failing and we need some new ideas, but someone needs to bring this to McEachin and the VEA's attention. Throwing money at entities (Va's underperforming schools) and expecting them to just all of a sudden improve performance is asking us to "Stay the Course"....and I think we know what happens then.
