Now Is Not The Time

We are Virginia Tech

Cross Posted at Daily Kos

I am going to make this diary short, because I don't really have that much to say.

I have been reading the blogs since the tragedy on Monday, I feel really horrible for everyone that has been affected by the shootings at Virginia Tech.

I only know one person myself who goes there, and I know another friend who's good friend lost her friend in the German class.

When things like this happen, I really don't want to talk much. I do want to say one thing though.

Now is not the time to debate about guns.

This week, our country has suffered the worst school shooting in history. People are still recovering.

It's nice to see diaries about the fallen, and inspirational stories to lift us up.

But, politics should take a step back for at least a week or two.

At least honor those who died with silence on the debate of Gun Control.

I just think it's respectful to pay tribute to those who died this week.

It's their memorial, leave politics out of it right now.

Thank you, and God Bless.

In their memory (drmontoya - 4/19/2007 2:07:40 PM)
May the souls of the departed rest in peace.

I'm not sure why (Andrea Chamblee - 4/19/2007 5:03:33 PM)
I'm not sure why preventing more deaths from gun violence wouldn't be the best way to honor their memory. On the other hand, I'm trying to understand the other side, I'm sure there are people who will say that preserving gun ownership is the best way. Regardless, arguing entrenched positions now probably won't change anyone minds, anyway.

An opinion from PZ Myers over at Pharyngula (PM - 4/19/2007 5:21:47 PM)
He said he had no problem with people talking about issues now -- just that we should not act during the heat of emotion.

I've been being quiet on gun issues and related issues too, except when I wished to point out ways in which the media was being insensitive.  Time needs to pass.

I should also say I had a nice bottle of cabernet the other night, bought specifically because the label name was Montoya.

Montoya Cabernet? (drmontoya - 4/19/2007 6:45:07 PM)
Where did you find this? I'd like a bottle of some "family" wine?

I think Trader Joe's in Centreville (PM - 4/19/2007 8:31:37 PM)
I may be back there tomorrow.  It could have been Giant but I think it was TJ's.  I'll let you know.

You mean wine... (Lowell - 4/19/2007 8:33:26 PM)
...like this? :)

I think that's it! (PM - 4/19/2007 9:01:27 PM)
But I think I only paid $9.99 at Trader Joe's.  I'll definitely report on this, likely tomorrow.

Hmmm. Custom wine labels.  Places on the internet will ship you bottles with "your" label on it, but I have some sticker paper for the printer.  Something to do on a rainy day perhaps.

Montoya Wine Update (PM - 4/25/2007 7:37:11 PM)
It's at Total Wine and More.  I talked to a seller at Whole Foods and he said they're the only authorized dealer for it in this area.  And, it is listed on their website.  There's one in Landmark, and one in Chantilly.  And it is 12.99.  (My memory is going, I guess from all the red wine.)
