In no particular order...

SENATOR McCAIN OFFERS SYMPATHIES, PRAYERS TO VIRGINIA TECH COMMUNITY

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) today issued the following statement about the massacre earlier today at Virginia Tech:

"I am shocked and saddened to hear the news of today's events. This inconceivable tragedy was a horrific act of cruelty that took the lives of so many innocent young people, cutting their lives short and inflicting tremendous pain on all of those who loved them.

"Cindy and I extend our deepest sympathies and prayers to the students, faculty, friends and family of the Virginia Tech community."

Sue Ann and Tommy Thompson Statement On Virginia Tech Tragedy
Our thoughts and prayers are with Virginia Tech's students, faculty and their families during this heartbreaking tragedy. There is far too much senseless violence in our schools and on our campuses, and we pray that we can come together as a nation to prevent such needless loss of life.

P.S.  I'm not avoiding him, there's just no statement on Mitt Romney's site as of 7:53 PM 9:23 PM eastern time.  Same thing with former Virginia Governor Jim Gilmore's site as of 8:01 PM 9:23 PM!  Same thing with Sam Brownback's site as of 8:05 PM 9:23 PM.  Appropriately, Dennis Kucinich's site is not functioning at all (update @9:35 PM, Kucinich's site is working, but no comment on the Virginia Tech tragedy).  Libertarian Ron Paul's website has nothing on the VA Tech tragedy.

[UPDATE: Tom Tancredo doesn't have anything about this on his Presidential campaign website, but he DOES have a statement on his Congressional website.  That's rather odd, but on the other hand, so is Tom Tancredo! :)  Anyway, here's Rep. Tancredo's statement:

U.S. Representative Tom Tancredo (R-CO) today offered his condolences and prayers to the families and friends affected by the Virginia Tech tragedy.

"I can only offer my thoughts and prayers to those kids, their family and friends at Virginia Tech today," said Tancredo, whose 6th District in Colorado represents Columbine High School. "This senseless violence cannot be justified nor the motives of the monster who committed it ever be fully understood."

"This is a dark day in our history as the lives of so many promising young kids have been cut short by a disturbed and evil person.  From experiencing our own tragic event whose anniversary is only a few days away, I can say with some encouragement that in time, wounds do heal."

John Edwards had a free concert and campaign event scheduled tonight in Nashville.  Instead they will have a prayer serice of some type.

Hearings with Gonzales have been moved back.

There are some days when the world stops.  Today is one.

Another cancellation. (Lowell - 4/16/2007 8:21:43 PM)
The Republican Party of Virginia "has postponed tomorrow evening's fundraising event featuring former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney as our country and our Commonwealth mourn the tragedy of the shootings at Virginia Tech."

Edwards statement (Alicia - 4/16/2007 10:24:13 PM)
You could feel the emotion there.  Very powerful.

2nd fave - Obama

Thanks for posting all these.

You're welcome. (Lowell - 4/16/2007 10:40:11 PM)
I thought most of the statements were strong.  The biggest disappointment of the day:  the FORMER GOVERNOR of Virginia, Jim Gilmore, made no comment on this tragedy, even though he's (supposedly) running for President.  Unbelievable...how was this guy ever elected in Virginia?
