Bush Popularity Sinks Along with New Orleans

Wow, check out these poll results.  Ouch!  It's certainly not looking good for President Bush when his popularity slides to new lows AFTER a major speech designed to turn things around following the New Orleans debacle.  Well, according to Rasmussen Reports:

Thirty-five percent (35%) of Americans now say that President Bush has done a good or excellent job responding to Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath. That's down from 39% before his speech from New Orleans.

And this is really bad news for the President, as his support plummets even among Republicans:

Following the speech, the President's rating for handling the Katrina crisis fell eight points among Republicans (from 71% good or excellent to 63%). The President also draws good or excellent marks from 11% of Democrats and 31% of those not affiliated with either major political party.

You think Jerry Kilgore will be inviting Bush to Virginia again anytime soon?  To paraphrase Bush himself, I say, "bring him on!!"  Heh.

[UPDATE:  If you missed it, here's what Frank Rich has to say about Bush in today's New York Times.  Double ouch!

The worst storm in our history proved perfect for exposing this president because in one big blast it illuminated all his failings: the rampant cronyism, the empty sloganeering of "compassionate conservatism," the lack of concern for the "underprivileged" his mother condescended to at the Astrodome, the reckless lack of planning for all government operations except tax cuts, the use of spin and photo-ops to camouflage failure and to substitute for action.]
