NY Sun: Environmentalists = Stupid Militants

An op-ed in this week's New York Sun, A CEO With A Spine, lays the conservative position on global warming (and really, everything other issue, too) on the line:

We can only trust corporations to look out for us.

Here are the highlights:

- Environmentalists are "militants"

- Anyone who thinks we should take action to stop global warming is "stupid"

- Global warming is not a threat to the planet; Al Gore is

- Al Gore is a "wealthy elitist"; the CEO of Murray Energy Corp., which spent over $200,000 on lobbying in the 2006 election cycle alone, is looking out for "the little guy"

- If other countries are polluting, we should too

- CEOs know more about the causes of climate change than scientists do

I could go on, but it's just too sad and just too easy.  But if I ever need motivation to keep fighting for the environment, articles like this give me all the boost I need.

Tony Perkins, the dinosaur who is head of the Family Research Council, just criticized Al Gore on Global Warming, citing 600,000 year old carbon dioxide scientific evidence.

This may be a problem for those FRC fans who believe in a 6,000 year old earth.  This delicious predicament has been noted with glee on some science oriented blogs.

That's hilarious. (Lowell - 4/4/2007 11:07:33 AM)
They claim the earth was created by God 6,000 years ago, yet they use evidence going back hundreds of thousands or even millions of years to debunk global warming science?  Duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh......

Just to show I'm not making this up.

Oh, Tony Perkins will find a way to wiggle out of it.

And the hard core creationists will use the "God fooled the scientists with his illusions" argument, i.e., God knew the unfaithful would question the literal Bible, so planted evidence.

That God (Catzmaw - 4/4/2007 9:24:28 PM)
What a sly, tricky devi ... wait, I don't want to say that ...  Good ole God, can't take His word on anythi ... oops, don't want to say that, either.  Oh God, you are one crazy illusionis... hey, can't say that, now, can we?

The NY Sun also said... (Lowell - 4/4/2007 11:06:32 AM)
...that protestors against the Iraq war should be prosecuted for treason (February 6, 2003).

Today, the Sun editorializes for Dick Cheney to run for President in 2008.  And they write that, as an added bonus, "Lynne Cheney would make one of the greatest First Ladies in history."

I put it to you that the New York Sun is utterly bonkers.  Do I hear a second?

All I can say is (PM - 4/4/2007 11:20:05 AM)
picture a Republican president with a grandchild being brought up by a same-sex couple.

I understand the grandchild is due very soon, and I truly hope she and her parents stand as beacons against oppression and the ignorance that causes it.
