Jerry Kilgore: You can?t be George W. Bush AND Mark Warner!

When asked in Tuesday?s debate about his leadership style, Jerry Kilgore said his leadership would be a mix of the ?compassionate conservatism? of George W. Bush AND the sensibility of Mark Warner. Truth be told, he has opposed everything Mark Warner has done in the last 4 years and has stated time and time again that he wants to ?undo the damage done? by the Warner-Kaine Administration.

Don?t let him fool you: Jerry Kilgore wants to be exactly like George W. Bush and bring that type of "leadership" to Virginia.  Sure, he can?t be like George W. Bush entirely.  He can?t invade West Virginia to get at their coal resources.  He can?t improve access to prescription drugs for seniors by simply raising Medicare rates, like the President did by 18% last year.  He can?t coerce airlines into bankruptcy in order to crush their unions.  And he can?t stop the Drug Enforcement Agency if they have to step in and enforce laws preventing the sale of over-the-counter medication used to make Methamphetamines.

However, he can totally ignore science and push intelligent design on school children.  He can support the construction of large polluting coal and nuclear plants throughout Virginia.  He can appoint incompetent cronies like Mike Brown to important technical posts when they have no experience.  He can make up cool sounding names like Clear Skies, Healthy Forests, or No Child Left Behind and then use them to reduce regulations on polluters, increase logging in state forests, and create mandates without funding.  And he can certainly borrow billions of dollars from future generations to pay for projects the state can?t afford.

Frankly Jerry, you can?t say you want to be like George W. Bush, a tax-cut and spend neo-conservative who has pushed our nation into financial ruin, and then say that you want to be like Mark Warner, a common-sense Democrat who has balanced the budget and helped Virginia become the best managed state in the nation.  That?s like saying you want to cut education funding, while improving the education system ? wait a minute, you?ve already said that!

While Jerry Kilgore models himself after George W. Bush and Jim Gilmore, both of whom led us to historic budget deficits ($6 billion in the case of Gilmore; hundreds of billions of dollars per year in the case of Bush), Tim Kaine models himself after bipartisan leaders like Bill Clinton and Mark Warner. Unlike Jerry Kilgore, Tim Kaine also has his own ideas and expresses them with thought and aplomb.  The bottom line is that Tim Kaine wants to be a great leader, which is exactly what we need in Virginia.

Why can't Jerry Kilg (Josh - 4/4/2006 11:28:04 PM)
Why can't Jerry Kilgore invade West Virginia?  He could kill thousands, let looters reign pillaging all the museums, and create an anit-Virginia insurgency.

Besides, it wouldn't matter how much he'd spend on the invasion... haven't you heard?! "Deficits" don't exist.

Yeah, Jen! Ken bette (Mary - 4/4/2006 11:28:05 PM)
Yeah, Jen! Ken better watch out that he doesn't get caught by his own backspin...  ?Debate rules, however, state 'the moderator also may ask questions of the candidates at whatever point the moderator deems appropriate.?? --Associated Press

Bottom line: The na (Josh - 4/4/2006 11:28:05 PM)
Bottom line:  The national GOP has failed to protect America.

Bush's one promise, the one reason he was reelected was SECURITY.

Iraq has no security.  The economy has no security.  At home we have no security.

It's time for a change.  Kilgore is part of the illusion that perfect markets make everyone well off.  Guess what, they don't.  Human endeavor, personal responsibility, fiscal responsibility, and Loving thy neighbor as thy self, that's what this nation needs.

10 years ago the GOP might have been able to represent the true potential of then nation.  Now it is time for the Democrats to stand up and lead.

When I heard the new (Jen Little - 4/4/2006 11:28:05 PM)
When I heard the news, it was like Christmas morning.  You know it is coming, but are so surprised and happy to see that it actually happened.

I will sleep well tonight knowing that if the Big One hits VA - Brownie will be far far away!

Josh: I do not want to even think of Jerry Kilgore being governor if the BIG ONE hits VA.  Oh my!  Could you imagine, "ok virginian's head to the polls and vote if you think we should help evacuate the sick, poor and aging... I do not think we can force people to do certain things"

The head of the fish (Teddy - 4/4/2006 11:28:05 PM)
The head of the fish stinks first. The ROT STARTS AT THE TOP. Brownie (some call him Drownie) took the fall for Dubya, just as Tenant took the fall on 9/11 and WMDs. Wonder when Brownie will get his Medal of Freedom or whatever.

Dan, Don't be too d (Josh - 4/4/2006 11:28:05 PM)
Dan,
Don't be too disapointed if Tim doesn't talk about the environment or healthcare.

He's mopping up the floor with Kilgore playing his game and it's great.

I just wish he'd call him out on character issues and the fact that friggin' Kilgore's a straight-up liar!

Rat: What part of ? (Josh - 4/4/2006 11:28:05 PM)
Rat:  What part of ?This was Kaine?s Debate? It wasn?t even close.?, don't you understand?

Are you still on that sinkin' ship?

Here's what Jen had (Josh - 4/4/2006 11:28:05 PM)
Here's what Jen had to say about Jerry and natural disasters:

Josh: I do not want to even think of Jerry Kilgore being governor if the BIG ONE hits VA. Oh my! Could you imagine, ?ok virginian?s head to the polls and vote if you think we should help evacuate the sick, poor and aging? I do not think we can force people to do certain things?

Leadership vacuum...

Rat: want to hear sp (Jen Little - 4/4/2006 11:28:05 PM)
Rat: want to hear spin???

SPIN:
" "The debate was moderated by Tim Russert, who at every turn, disregarded the agreed upon rules and time limit," Kilgore campaign manager Ken Hutcheson wrote in an e-mail to supporters.? (AP 9/13/05)

That, Rat, is Spin!

Rat: The AP left a l (Jen Little - 4/4/2006 11:28:05 PM)
Rat: The AP left a little out, here's my FAVORITE "spin":
Ken Hutcheson (in the e-mail to supporters): "Despite Russert's obvious favoritism of Tim Kaine"

Now I watch Russert EVERY Sunday, and have seen him moderate debates.  Are we really talking about the same guy???

Hutchenson has been dipping into the sauce.  Can't say I blame him!  If I had his day - I would drink too!  I would skip the op ed in the morning's Washington Post, and go straight to the classifieds.

Next?!?!?!?

So "Rat" is Tom Bake (Brian - 4/4/2006 11:28:05 PM)
So "Rat" is Tom Baker?  That is interesting news and explains a lot.

Tom Baker is Terry K (Frankie - 4/4/2006 11:28:05 PM)
Tom Baker is Terry Kilgore's campaign manager and partner in his law firm.  Obviously both are supporters of Jerry Kilgore.

At least you know now that the Kilgores are reading your blog.

Don't weasels eat ra (Lowell - 4/4/2006 11:28:05 PM)
Don't weasels eat rats?  That is, when the rats aren't jumping off sinking ships or spreading black plague or something?

According to Wikiped (Lowell - 4/4/2006 11:28:05 PM)
According to Wikipedia, "Most weasels feed on small mammals, and in former times were considered vermin since some species took poultry from farms, or rabbits from commercial warrens."

In other words, "weasels" eat "rats' and "ducks" too.  Verrry interesting.

Is there any effort (Teddy - 4/4/2006 11:28:05 PM)
Is there any effort to get clips of the debate, or the entire debate, on downstate television where it could do the most good? Those hung up on sex (abortion, etc) will love Jerry's answers and won't change their minds; rational folks will finally get to see Jerry for what he is: not a leader. Clearly, I say again, the job of Governor is too big for Jerry Kilgore.

Moreover, Kilgore is NOT Republican. To my mind, if there are still some genuine, old-time Republican out there, those who just can't bite the bullet and vote for a Democrat, their only choice in this race then is to vote for Potts.

Oh go ahead and give (Mimi Schaeffer - 4/4/2006 11:28:05 PM)
Oh go ahead and give Kilgore an F.

And if you have to give him credit for just showing up, then give him an F+, which still translates to an F.

Mike: did your taxe (Josh - 4/4/2006 11:28:05 PM)
Mike:  did your taxes go up?
My taxes didn't go up, my taxes went down.

Mike Rafone: First (Jen Little - 4/4/2006 11:28:05 PM)
Mike Rafone:
First of all in Mark Warner, Virginians had a leader for the past four years.  With Tim Kaine we have the fantastic opportunity to continue the success of the Warner-Kaine administration.

Second, JERRY KILGORE IS NO LEADER! NEVER WAS NEVER WILL BE!  I dont have to be elected governor to know that.

TIM KAINE IS A LEADER!

Josh: My taxes did not go up, either!

I'll say this, Tim K (Neal2028 - 4/4/2006 11:28:05 PM)
I'll say this, Tim Kaine was MUCH more believable, and Russ Potts is MUCH more exciting than Jerry Kilgore.

I'd have either one of them over Kilgore any day for Governor...

Right on, Jim! WR (Jen Little - 4/4/2006 11:28:06 PM)
Right on, Jim!

WRETCHED!

Mike: I do stand by (Jen Little - 4/4/2006 11:28:06 PM)
Mike:  I do stand by my remarks regarding Jerry's ability to perform in a crisis.  I am so glad we have Tim Kaine so we never have to worry about that!

Jerry as governor haha - he was a lousy (and I mean LOUSY), attorney general, the less Jerry Kilgore is involved in VA Government the better off all Virginians are!!!

That's my story and I am sticking to it!

The more I see and h (Jim Keney - 4/4/2006 11:28:06 PM)
The more I see and hear Tim Kaine  the greater appreciation I have of him as a person and a leader. We must do what we can to get him elected. The alternative is just not acceptable, wretched.
