When Is a Democrat No Longer a Democrat?

How about when he not only endorses George Allen against Jim Webb, but when he's endorsed - and given money to - a conservative Republican before?  That's right, according to today's Richmond Free Press (not available online), State Senator Benjamin "Benedict" J. Lambert, III (D-INO) made a $1,000 donation in 2004 "to help elect Republicans to Congress."  Specifically, Lambert gave to Rep. Howard F. "Buck" McKeon (R-CA), a conservative Republican who voted with President Bush 92% of the time.  Wonderful.

For more on this travesty, see the "flip."  If you want to help Donald McEachin - a great Democrat who strongly and forcefully backed Jim Webb, helping to win back the US Senate last year - defeat "Benedict" Lambert for State Senate, please click here and give generously.  Thanks.

similar situation in Kentucky (Nick Stump - 3/29/2007 4:55:20 PM)
In Kentucky, 2007 Gov candidate Bruce Lunsford endorsed present
Republican Governor in the last race.  Bruce is also raising money in Republican circles.

Party loyalty ain't what it used to be.

Party "loyalty" and new best friends (Teddy - 3/30/2007 9:23:06 AM)
Party loyalty is indeed shifting ground these days--- I have never been to Kentucky, but i'm getting e-mails from Lunsbord, by the way, so he must have a Democratic list from somewhere--- or an old republican list.

I think what we are seeing is the beginnings of a tectonic shift in political parties, wiping out the tired old republican-defined split between liberal and so-called conservative, into a new pattern as yet unnamed. If Democrats get there first and define the territory, they will get to define the new alignments, and name it to their advantage. What do you all think?

Both stink... (Detcord - 3/30/2007 10:26:53 AM)
What I see is a revulsion with both parties and an electorate that despises the domination of civil debate by extremes on both ends.  The lack of civility and comity is disheartening and vitriol and invectives thrown around are to be condemned yet too often praised and mimicked.  The president has his lowest positives in years but Congressional positives are even lower...the election didn't change that which mean we got gyped again.  What we were sold as a "new government" and new way of doing things" is no different than every other Congress before it.  The pork and bribes in this supplementa bill prove that graft and corruption still rule the Hill.  Those of us in the middle are about to completely tune out as so many others have.  Unfortunately, I think it will take a nuke going off in new York City to bring those morons in Washington together.  If state and local officials want to work across party lines and get things done collaboratively, I say great and screw the politics of the whole thing.

I've given money and voted for GOP members (DanG - 3/30/2007 12:02:54 PM)
Does that mean that I too am no longer a Democrat?

We've been through this many times. (Lowell - 3/30/2007 12:05:16 PM)
You're not an elected official who has violated Democratic Party rules that you yourself agreed to.  Totally different situation.
