Amidst the possibility that the Senate could restore the most basic of rights to Guantanamo detainees in The Restoring the Constitution Act (S. 576 H.R. 1415), the Northern Virginia Chapter of the ACLU of Virginia held a forum last night "Guantanamo and Habeas Corpus: What is at Stake?" at the Rosslyn Spectrum theater.

The discussion was lively, and sometimes heated, as panelist Tom Wilner of Shearman and Sterling and Jumana Musa of Amnesty International, took the Heritage Foundation's Steven Groves to task on many of the administrations judicial workarounds concerning the status of Guantanamo detainees.

David Lachmann, Counsel for the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, presented some interesting ideas for the future of Habeas Corpus for these detainees.

The Q&A session afterwards was also so intense, that it lasted nearly until the Spectrum lighting crew turned out the lights!

I was stuck preparing a perfectly frivolous (Catzmaw - 3/22/2007 1:37:33 PM)
but mandatory legal document for filing so missed the whole thing.  Please tell me someone recorded this event and it will be available online or on C-Span.
