Rex Simmons, candidate for delegate in the 40th district had a very successful campaign kickoff this past Sunday that I had the pleasure to attend. He is working to unseat Tim Hugo, who is looking at a tough race this November, both as the result of a district turning more blue, and the fact that he will have a very formidable opponent in either Simmons or Morris Meyer who is also running.

Several Democratic members of the House of Delegates were in attendance, as were many other prominent community leaders.

Also in attendance was past President of George Mason University George Johnson, and former FDIC Inspector General Gaston Gianni, both of whom have endorsed Simmons.

Rex talked about the fundamental issues on which he will campaign, transportation, the environment, education, and fiscal responsibility...all issues on which his experience working as an auditor and assistant inspector general for two bank regulatory agencies will allow him to hit the ground running when he takes office.

Great Event (Glant - 3/14/2007 9:11:38 PM)
I also had the chance to attend and I agree that Rex will be a very strong opponent for Hugo in November.

Rex also had a nice way of talking with everyone there.  His long time as a resident of the 40th district gives him a deep understanding of the day to day impact of the traffic funding impasse on everyone's quality of life.
