Barbara Bush: It's "working out very well" for N.O. refugees. How compassionate.

The Bush/Republican family values quote of the day comes courtesy of family matriarch Barbara "Babs" Bush, in her "let them eat cake" elitist mode.  Barbara's oh-so-sensitive comment pertains to the poor people forced out of New Orleans by Hurricane Katrina and now living on "cots crammed side-by-side in a huge stadium where the lights never go out and the sound of sobbing children never completely ceases."

Keep in mind that most of these people lost their homes, their jobs, and their city.  And, sadly, many lost family members and friends.  In addition, most have just experienced a horrendous week that nobody should ever have to live through.  Anyway, with that warmup, here's Barbara "Mother of the 'Compassionate Conservative'" Bush in one of her, well, not-so-compassionate moments:

What I'm hearing, which is sort of scary, is they all want to stay in Texas. Everyone is so overwhelmed by the hospitality.  And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this (she chuckles slightly) is working very well for them.

Chuckle, chuckle, hilarious.  Must be real funny when you get to fly right back to your family estate in Kennebunkport, or your multi-million dollar home in Houston.  Interestingly, this is the same Barbara Bush also known for saying: "Bias has to be taught. If you hear your parents downgrading women or people of different backgrounds, why, you are going to do that."  Hmmm...downgrading people of different background.  I wonder if that's where Dubya gets it from.

By the way, is this quote Republican family values to a "t" or what?  Or is it just the typical condescending classism and racism that goes with the elitist, lily-white oil/ranching/military-industrial yacht club crowd the Bushes run -- or should I say, "sail" -- in?  Blech.
