1) Give money to help children herehere, and here  (among others)
2) Give money to the Red Cross
3) Offer housing to homeless Hurricane victims
4) Help send medical supplies to Hurricane victims, as well as all kinds of supplies
5) Help rebuild peoples homes
6) Help rescue stranded, starving animals herehere, and here
7) Send books to kids
8) Support the Corporation for National and Community Service

Others
9) Tell Congress and President Bush to get their priorities straight and worry more about Hurricane recovery then about privatizing Social Security and giving more tax breaks to rich people.
10) Rebuild New Orleans, but do it in a smart way.  Do NOT repeat past mistakes, including the destruction of protective wetlands surrounding the city.
11) Urge Congress to modify bankruptcy "reform" that penalizes Katrina victims
12) Look seriously at cutting government incentives for people to build in areas that are susceptible to hurricanes, floods, and other natural disasters
13) Consider phasing out our Iraq involvement while we have pressing needs in the "homeland."
14) Stop "destroying" and "downgrading" FEMA, "the country's premier agency for dealing with such events" as Hurricane Katrina.  Get it out of the dysfunctional Department of Homeland Security.
15) Fire Michael Brown, director of FEMA, immediately, as the New Orleans Times-Picayune has urged.
16) Form an equivalent of the 9/11 Commission to look into what went wrong with our Hurricane Katrina response, what that means for our "homeland security" efforts in general, and how to fix the problems.

These are just a few priorities.  Any others you can think of?
